Vintage Buggy Race Series at Ardent Raceway
Hi 10th Vintage Electric Buggy Racers,
We are launching this series initially aimed at the on-road world (as we are an on road carpet track) www.ardentracing.com/winterseries but I would like to invite the 10th Scale Buggy racers to the party and change our 480sqm permanent track into an awesome buggy track once a month. I would pick a weekend that didn't clash with the mighty Worksop and it would be a 2 day event starting Saturday and finishing Sunday. Saturday would be 2wd and 4wd practice with 2 rounds of qualifying. Sunday would be 3 rounds of qualifying and 2 maybe 3 finals depending on numbers. We would run Open 2WD and Open 4WD and also I like the idea of seeing some vintage RC models racing again, so a 1970, 1980 and 1990s mixed classes unless we get enough racers and then we could split 2wd and 4wd. I have a Sand Scorcher, Tamiya HotShot and Schumacher Pro-Cat, that I want to race again, so I'll be doing all three :-) For the vintage classes, everything in the car must be from that decade, excluding tyres, batteries and radio gear, so car, shell, speedo, motor, must be from that decade. (re-issues allowed but will be distinguished from the original vintage models with an 'R' next to the drivers name.) The buggy drivers would share the £8K prize pot with the on road classes which includes passenger rides in the Kick Energy Rally Ford Focus cars, VIP access to the Kick Energy Rally show at Chatsworth House, hot air balloon rides etc.. I would do it over 7 rounds with a twist for the final round. It would actually be part of the Chatsworth Rally Show (outdoors on short grass) and it would expose the sport, its drivers and the series Sponsors to the 5000 people that attend the Rally show over the weekend (in June). take a look at http://www.ardentracing.com/winterseries/livevideo.php for more info on the Raceway and Rally Show. The overall winner of the series would be invited to have a go at getting into the Guinness book of records for the longest ever RC jump with our 1/8th scale 22v lipo powered brushless HPI Vorsa and with a 40m carpeted runway. (we should be able to clear 30mtrs easy!! (or you could use your own car if you preferred. Before I take the plunge I just wanted to gauge if this is of interest to anyone? Cost per weekend would be £10 for the two days of practice/racing. If you can't make the Saturday Practice then the track will be open for practice on the evening of the Saturday, to give you some extra prep time. Fancy it anyone? I'd also do a 15% discount if you book and pay in July. In site caravan and motohome storage £10 per night, extra £5 if you want magic cable juice. |

I was in for some of that all the way until the " speedo, motor, must be from that decade " part....
Im quite happy to race my old buggies - we run a vintage series in Caldicot in the winter - but im not going back to brushed again, im far to lazy to skim comms and rebuild well-worn 20 year old motors Whatever happens, good luck with it |

Hmmm... I didn't read it properly either! Anybody still got an old comm lathe?
Come to think of it, anybody got an old Novak/Mtroniks speedo lying around?! |

Hello is this happening in the future as I am interested. I have an original Boomerang I'd like to race. What would be the rules?

Same here, try finding a 10d corally from the 90's and a tekin 410k as thats what i used. I would have been up for it but unless Brushless is allowed im not interested. Brushed have more top end so shouldnt be any different or unfair if we used brushless.

You could have two classes of vintage in the competition - one straight out of the box to make it competative ie original speed controllers etc and them another class where any modification goes. What do ppl think?

I have a 1990 Vintage NOSRAM in a ProCAT I could dust off? The car is fitted with 1990 Mods such as MMS diff, alloy chassis, and a transmission brace/heatsink though. Definitely wouldn't want to try the transmission with more than a Stock motor though...

You can run lipo mate, and modern radio gear and tyres. Check the first post.
I think vintage class is a great idea. Not sure about the rule on speedo and esc though. I just dont have any suitable. I was thinking about buying a re release but i am not keen on using a silver can, or buying vintage electrics. Maybe some motor limits may mean more drivers? Its not like i am going to put a 3.5 in a boomerang. |

I think something like a pre 80,s brushed or brushless and then a post 80,s class again brushed or brushless. 2wd/4wd split or together would depend on numbers.
Having raced at the first Durango winter race at Ardant with a Worlds RC10 checkpoint 12x2 LRP8.1 and Lipo cells, I would definitely be up for a meeting and I,ll even bring my comm lathe |
