I think it is really great that you are taking the time to create "formulas" for Mini racing. I hope you have a good meeting.

You asked for comments, so I'll just mention a couple of things that would concern me (as a fellow spec class organiser - we do TT-01's at our club)...

1. Class 1. Hop-ups - allowing any damper of "same dimensions" as 50746 means people can run TRF dampers. Why not spec just 50746?
2. Same with the TEU-101BK "or similar" - what is similar? Why not just spec the 101BK, it is the cheapest ESC on the market and also the best for that kind of motor.
3. How are you going to work the 2 leg finals? Best result and the other as a tiebreaker? Both to count? 3-legs tends to create a fairer result with best 2 to count, means you have to be consistent to work up the grid, and doesn't penalise you for one bad run.

Good luck though. Wish I had one of those old Yokomo MR-4 minis to run in the silhoutte class on touring tyres - they would tear up a small indoor track!

Hi

Perhaps I can answer as I wrote the reg's for the LORMCC series, which Class 1 is basically copied from, and the GP Meeting is my responsibility.

Initially we permitted only the 50746 Mini CVA, however, as the series grew, it became apparent that availability at that time of the Mini CVA was limited. We tried some cheaper Alloy shocks from various manufacturers, and although pretty, offered no performance advantage. Eventually someone tried the TRF shock, which although acknowledged as the best dampers around (I use them on my TC4) made no difference to the way the Mini's handle compared to the plastic CVA's. With that in mind, we permitted their use, and appart from one set, nobody has bothered. Interestingly, two of the three quickest cars, still have friction shocks.

The same applied for the ESC. Most competiters use the Tamiya kit item, however, some of us, my son included, bought kits second hand from auction sites, with and without ESC's. We have racers using top of the range LRP, MRT and similar ESC, and again, with 1700 stick packs, and Silver Can motors they have no advantage. I can, and always do, drive round the outside of an MRT equipped car with the standard kit stuff. The driver - who shall remain nameless - is a factory driver in another dicipline, he usually beats me through better line, but his car is'nt any quicker.

Mini's appear unique. Some tried and tested tuning options make little or no difference to the way the cars run. Stop them grip rolling, get the power down via the diff, and thats about it (indoors)

Good point regarding the finals. I was going to score the final on a points basis, 1 for 1st, 2 for 2nd etc etc, lowest wins, but perhaps that can be changed. We are posting on lots of forums to gain some feedback, as well as get some interest.

Mini racing is about close racing and having fun. A break from all the serious stuff. The GP meeting is an extension of a successful club series, that in a couple of months has grown from 4 or 5 entries, to 18, and has spread to other local clubs.

Oh, and if I could find a Yokomo MR-4 (and I've been looking) I'd enter it ahead of my HPI RS4.

Cheers

Tim

Sounds excellent, unfortunately I sold my Mini about 3 months ago cos I never used it! A couple of my friends (Sunktothenuts from Maxbashing, and Bellysgonnagetchya from Tamiya Club) have got the ABC 4wd Mini's from Japan, for about £80, and are properly chuffed with them. I might get one of those and enter it in class 3 (not that I'm any good at driving... )

I know that Simon (Sunktothenuts) is already booked in as he's the one who phoned me and told me about the competition! Simon Savage from MB is also thinking of going, he keeps texting me asking if I know anyone with a second hand M03 he can buy...

I've just read through the thread, and watched the video of the Tamiya M03 Rally at Kidderminster.

Worth mentioning, at LORMCC club events, we use (just one as it's a pain to put down and take up between heats) a small jump. We're (regular Mini racers) all in agreement, that this add's a HUGE fun factor to the races. We intend to use this, and other Jumps/Washboards/nastily place pot dots and anything else we think of, at the Mini GP

Default Online booking now open

The online booking in facility is now open. It's unlikely we'll be able to accomodate entries on the day.
