Bally. Piccy of the Novak, 'shoehorned' into the ZX-5. There is a huge 'power cap' think that is between the motor and the speedo, I guess it's similar in size to the one on the GT7. The Novak is very, very good. I have though seen the LRP run in a BJ and it looked just as impressive in terms of speed. The only thing with the Novak is you MUST use the fan. I've run it without and it overheats / goes into low speed mode until it cools off a bit. The guy I saw running the LRP in a BJ had a small fan blowing over the huge LRP heatsink too ? Interesting.... I don't think you can go far wrong with either from what i've seen / heard and read. I have being warned off the Mtroniks brushless units though ? |

cheers andy, not sure what to do now, didnt realise they were so big. i just like the idea of putting it in the car and not having to mess about skimming motors etc.
does anybody know if the LRP/Nosram unit is any smaller? thanks for the replys |

What makes them look BIG is the fact of the amount of wire involved in routing these systems into the car, plus they do tend to run hot.
I have installed a 18th brushless in an RC18T and the peice parts are very small, but then you got to add the three wires from the motor to the ESC and bang goes the el-neato wiring. What's it like to drive a sensored system, mine is a sensorless and there is an occaisonal loss of power, usual transitioning between reverse and forward, not something to worry about in racing though.

Thanks for the picture Andy. Was everything a "bolt-in" to put the Novak system in the ZX5? I'm looking at picking up a ZX5 in the next few weeks and thinking about the Novak system myself. Which Novak system do you have?
Thanks and best regards, Tony P. |

The speedo is mounted as far into the centre of the ZX5 as possible, as the fan on top of the speedo fouls the shell. This is why I have used a different fan, and mounted it even further inwards, if I simply mounted it on top of the speedo (as you are supposed to), the shell would not go on properly !
I managed to get this to work ok with the kit top deck, but it's much tidier with a carbon top deck as I could drill it to mount the fan nicely usinf nuts and bolts rather than tie-wraps. The unit I have is the GTB 6.5 and I would reccomend it, very, very good indeed. |

my LRP sphere and VECTOR brushless has been working well.
I used mine at the NECon carpet in 4WD and it ran fine with no fan, just the heatsink, and that was running for 8+ minutes. the LRP motor is actually a 7.5 turn (I think) the novak motors are 6.5 and 5.5 motors, the sphere is able to run these motors just fine. you will get people saying that the novak brushless speedo is faster, this is simply because it comes with a 'hotter' motor. its like comparing 2 brushed speedo's and one using an 8 turn and the other using a 10 turn. hope that helps |
