Default Spur gears ??

is anyone else having problems with spur gears stripping? i've stripped 5 so far, and at first i thought the motor clamp hadn't been tight enough and the motor had moved, but i've since moved from buttonhead to caphead screws on the motor clamp to get them really tight, but its still happened
what i noticed this time, is that the slipper has got really hot, and after its stripped the spur, it looked like it was no longer sitting dead center... on closer inspection after removing it from the car, i've noticed that the center of the spur has melted out of shape, what i want know is, are there any alternatives to the schumacher spur gears?

thanks Jay

Im now running an associated spur. (81)
The schumacher ones seem quite brittle. All you have to do with the associated ones is ream the hole bigger in the middle. I find that if you make the hole so it just goes to the edge of the raised bit it is a nice fit. Make sure you drill the hole straight though!

I know one guy who was regularly stripping spurs reset his slipper clutch properly and hasnt had a problem since. He had checked his mesh, made sure everything was tight and re-aligned the pinion.

I think if the slipper is too tight, the spur gear's teeth is the next weak link...

Shane.. it would appear you've caught the wrong keys and put x11 instead of SX in your sig line

Hi Jay,
Do ensure it isn't slipping excessively, it doesn't take much to melt any brand of spur.

If your slipper is hot and you've melted the centre, then your slipper is far too loose. Have seen this a bit in fairness. If you get everything set right then it should all be fine. I did use AE ones when we ran out during last summer. You can use them, but it's not ideal as it's very difficult to get the hole to the right size and perfectly centre.

Yes Chris a lot of the spares all went up from Schuey about two months ago now, gradually these prices are coming through as older stock at lower prices runs out now (this is the case with us anyhow)

And its got to be perfectly central.

Personally ive never had a problem, but I do like my slipper to work so little it can hardly be detected. I think it'll slip 1-2ft maximum for me, and thats only to protect the belts otherwise id just lock it solid.

£7.53 SX Spur
£3.67 B4 spur

Your right. Both in stock at JE spares.

To change to the B4 spur do we need to change to B4 slipper pads or are they same as SX? They look the same to the eye, I don't have them in-front of me to measure.

£6.50 B4 slipper pads

But are the schumacher spur gears expensive?

X-Factory XF5506 111 tooth spur gear - black (X5) £13.95

Do the math..

You can run associated pads, they just need filing slightly on each side. I only ran them once when i ran out of Schumacher pads.

As for the spur gears, I stripped 1 at Southport national and that was pretty much it. I know Matt did alot more in testing, but i guess that was his dodgy meshing lol.
