Default Plasticote clear - or coloured ?

My clear Plastikote has ran out.

Not sure if I should buy clear - or black - or white ?

As I am normally backing with black - is the black the way to go ?

Any reason to only use clear?

Ta.

being a solvent going over a waterbased i prefer to use clear just in the event there is any 'bleed' through from the solvent.

i would always choose safety over aesthetics when it comes to the inside of a shell...but, if you can have both then great

Gloss is more resilient to repelling anything where as the matt sort of soaks stuff up. So as if I don't take long enough to paint shells I go about this the long way too.

Seal it with clear gloss, reasons as per Jon's above. Then back that with Matt black. Looks better on the inside than colours / over spray, always looks better in my photo's too ! Yeah I know it's all me me me

I've used clear and black
Never had a problem with black myself only thing is I use more
Of it as your trying to give the shell a right covering
So you carnt see any other colors through it

So I try to get clear ,

This is done with black

Always used to use it but easier for me to get hold of plastikote, also comes in bigger cans so lasts longer and is probably about the same price when you work it out.

To be honest though the stench of it is starting to wind me ( and the misses ) up... I do it in the garage but it hangs about for days. I'm used to the smell of thinners paints but plastikote smells disgusting !

I've used white & clear.

I've never really though black was a good idea.
The black could dull down any colours.

White or clear would keep everything nice and bright

Not if you've already backed the colours with white ! I put a silver on as a final coat to which seals the white in and then back that with the plastikote. Not had any problems, my whites and flouro's stay nice and bright.

Hi Ian.

What brand of silver are you using - the createx silver I have is Pearl, so it's very translucent and would be no good for backing anything

Solvent based silver out of a rattle can would be fine though

I noticed that at some point they changed the silver, it never used to be quite so but your definitely right.

I also use Plastikote clear, I find the smell is worse if it is put in the bag after, I tend to leave mine to air afterwards.
