Default What motor for 2WD - the fastest?

Brushless motors:

Why are most setups for 2WD and 4WD using different Kv (turn) motors?

With the ability of high end ESC's and Tx's to tune the throttle response would not the fastest motor be the best - then adjust the pinion for the fastest section of track and tune in the response to the throttle to suit the traction? OR tune the thumb .

There should be no problem with run time using Brushless and Lipos.

My Cyclone D4 runs a Mamba 6900 combo with 17t pinion on a small grass track.

What to run in a D2?

Thanks Jeff

Not really, though I can see where you're coming from, 4wd isnt so much of a problem but in 2wd keeping the front end on the ground becomes the main issue when you start using quicker motors

Most people run 6.5 or 7.5 turn motors in their 2wd's, and 5.5 turns in 4wd. Sorry but I don't know how that equates to one of those Mamba contraptions

Ha ha, yea my first year back last year and as I've always been a bit of a speed freak I decided put a 3.5 in my B4! Lets just say it didn't make my lap times any faster. I'd still love to give it a try one day in a 4wd just for the amusement of it, but haven't got the 3.5 brushless any more.

...and beat everyone in sight.

The fastest motor in a straight line doesn't win races. The fastest motor is the one that wins the race - and is often seen in the back of Neil's car!!!

I think he means why not bolt in the fastest motor, then use the speedo/transmitter to limit your top end/acceleration to a suitable level?

Which as a newbie I've been wondering too

Because that way you lose a lot of efficiency, and the motor doesn't perform the same as you alter the limit on your tranny.

The limiter you need is attached to your hand - learn to use the thumb/finger to limit speed, as that way you will always have enough, but not use too much. HTH

Plus the faster motors have a more harsh bottom end. Just buy the right motor and have fun
