Which buggy???
Hello there,
Could you please suggest to me a decent and low cost 4wd buggy? The electric buggy class in Greece is just starting to grow again. Have a kyosho lazer zxr which i used to race back in 1995 but i dont know if it is wise to put it in races again . Need yr guidance asap as i want to get involved into electric racing fast. Regards, PS : Still have 1700 mah sanyo batteries. so you can imagine how many things i ve lost.... |

If you want low cost 4WD, the best option out there (in my opinion!!) is the laser ZX5. One of ther cheapest kits around and spares are reasonable too.

mmmm
Well its a tough choice. Yes the ZX5 as stated by Col. The only other car I would mention is the academy. Yes its a shaft as well but never the less its pretty good. Cheap as well. Easy to maintain and in my opinion a better design than the ZX5.
http://www.modelrectifier.com/rc-pro...ars-trucks.asp However if you can still find the rear belts, the spare layshaft gears, and a spur gear that fits (if you do not have screw on spur layshaft big problem) and bodyshell (Penkarc shells is no more but i know a few places that do zx shells or optima lwb mid shells that fit) then I see no reason why not the ZXR as its still rated as one of the best designed belt drive cars made. Still would compete easily with todays cars (I have proven this already) but the only problem is the spares and shells. Down to you. Let us know your decision. any questions just ask.

The ZX5 is probably the best "cheap" 4wd. The Academy is definately another interesting option, but you will have to check out parts support I think first.

Well thank you guys for the infos. Unfortunately there is no distributor here for ACADEMY only KYOSHO. And to tell you the truth i would like to have a small change and take the Academy but.... is the Academy durable? Can it be placed within competition ?
Many thanks , |

I think the Academy is doing OK in the USA where there is a decent distributor and some team drivers. The car does look alright but you just don't tend to see it on the track over here any longer which is a shame.

Southwell,
What is the difference between SB PRO KIT & SB SPORT KIT ??? I can see that Pro is cheaper than Sport. |

academy
Well i hate to admit it but the academy was very quick when i went up against one, well built and took a beating. Also easy to work on.
I liked it for it being cheap to buy and cheap to maintain. Mind you i dont know about the ZX-5 yet but you will have a lot of options open to you with it, like chassis variations as well as always managing to get spares as and when you need. Heck I can still buy parts from Kyosho for my ZX/ZXR and ZXS. Kyosho sell a product and keep selling spares for years after its been replaced, unlike all the other manufacturers

You should only need, motor mount, alloy steering arms and a one way, their pretty good out of the box, but can be a little too flexible on high grip tracks, you can put extra mounts between the upper and lower deck to stiffen it up a bit. |
