Most likely is pressures of modern working life ..... I know that has taken me close to selling up a few times over the last couple of years.

Next most likely is the rising cost of living, especially fuel ...... I run an efficient diesel (modded and remapped to suit) and still shudder to think how much it costs me now just to get to a meeting .... cost of fuel limits funds for racing kit like tires at the meeting.

Even when i worked away and was only home at the weekends i never dreamt of selling up, its something i look forward too for the weekend. Now i work fairly local (i can go home at night) i still bang in 50 hours from monday to friday.

What i am trying to say is, i think it depends on how you see the hobby/sport, some do it because their dads want them too, some do it for the social side and some do it for the competition or both. Right now i would rather halve my wage and be at home and not feel guilty about going away at the weekends. That way her indoors doesn`t moan either.

If i was still racing on road i think i would be doing very little racing though. Just cos its GAY

I was just going to say, maybe there is an age revolution going on, and they are at the time of their life where little rug rats are appearing, and it is dam hard to put the effort into house-misses-little un-racing, one of them has to give, although, after being there and done that.... I would say, sell the stuff that won't be worth much in a year or so, but stuff like car, radio gear and electronics, guard with your life and hide it in the attic..... if you don't come back, hold onto it for 10 years, and they will be collector items

Well I'm selling up because I haven't raced for nearly 7 years. Most my kit now is not worth a fat lot compared to when I bought it anyway. Plus green coated nicads don't seem to work to well

I now have a little one aswell. I'm sure he would make a great marshall. He would crawl after the cars around the track and maybe give them a good run for their money!!

Hopefully in a few years I can get them interested and we can do it together.

Im with Lee on this one. I do this for escape-ism from life & work. The few weekends when I don't race, I am really moody on a Monday and the weekend drags big time - there is only so many times I can wax my car and doing anything else costs more than I can justify (id rather spend it on tyres!!! )

It does gripe me at the cost, but only afterwards, while im racing I just want to escape from my emails, work, etc. and crack on with competing & socialising.

Chris

If i'm not RC Racing, i'm out watching me brother rallying. Kids love the rallying. Her indoors doesn't like it.

the initial cost is the biggest outlay. A regional meeting only costs the same amount as what a night out in liverpool would total, if not less (if you tally the booking in, fuel, tyres, but not adding possible breakages). Most people i know would spend around £50 + on at least one big night out a week

...and by saying this, i'm not suggesting that it's normal to spend that much!! I'm just saying that i probably get more out of racing on a sunday than i would out of a piss up on friday or saturday night (and feeling like death/regretting the biffa i pulled the night before). I totally agree with the escapism comment

Easily Stan, if i go out and only spend 50 notes its been a cheap night.

I have spent over 200 in one night but we wont go into that

Off road is cheap compared to on road, we can get away with not having the latest and greatest.

I think most people can get away with a new set a meeting (club/regional), thats only £15 if you use acetone.
