Default Tapered pistons...which way round?!?

When you fit them is the taper at the top or the bottom?!?

Right ok. Does that make it faster on the compression then?

tapper on the top, but it actually doesn't matter which way round you fit them (according to ghea who made them)

The theory is that the angular side will move faster through the oil than the flat side. Rather like a F1 cars nose verses my VW T4 front grill! But that is aerodynamics rather the fluiddynamics. The flat side pointing to the top means that you should get more pack and as the tapered side is pointing down then you get a faster rebound. But that is all theory. I think in practise the tapered pistons are also made much better than the mass produced ones and therefore are more consistent and why people like to use them.

Isnt that what you want though? more pact? If what you are saying is true then if running them face down will mean that the car will bottom out more after big jumps? or not?!?

We need pack when landing from jumps so the flat side points up as that gives the most amount of resistance and as the tapered side is pointing down this allows less resistance as the shock rebounds.

I think what is confusing is that in Touring Car you need it the opposite way around. That has cropped up especially with the new MIP shocks.
