Using brakes

Just been reading a thread on here about switching Tx from sticks to wheel and it got me wondering about using brakes.
I don't really use the brakes on the Tx as I coast into corners, which is clearly a slower way to drive, but here is my question...

As I seem mentally unable to brake, if I set the drag brake high on ESC and release the throttle on way into corner, will that do the same? This could give me faster lap times as I am now driving pretty steady and with few crashes but i am not on the pace, albeit consistent.

Defo worth trying to play around with drag brake, I currently use 12% I think.

Watch for temperatures with higher brake settings, and also bear in mind sections of track where you might only 'lift' to neutral rather than brake, if drag brake is set high obviously these will become braking areas you may not have intended.

Also jumps; car will nose down with very high drag brake.

But worth a try!

It might unsettle the car going into corners if you run too much, especially on slippy floor.

I wouldn't recommend that, just run a touch of drag brake, very little though.

If you can use the throttle, then you can use the brake..

What would be worth trying is to reduce the EPA on the brake so your margin for error and being a bit ham fisted is substantially reduced.

I was the same. Had two braking modes. Coast, or full slither to a halt, trigger as far forward as it would go.

I fixed it by limiting the brake to about 50%. Using the ABS feature on the ESC (no locked wheels) and fitting the trigger precisely to my finger using sugru. So instead of having to move my finger from the throttle side to the brake side before I move the trigger, it's just a mm of movement and the brakes start.

Adding drag brake instead of practicing is pretty pointless as it makes jumping and cornering harder than it needs to be. You'll also struggle to get exactly the right amount of drag, and it'll change depending on track conditions, tyre wear, line choice and so on.

The abs feature is really designed for nitro. It won't do your ESC much good I'm afraid.

No it's not.
It's an inbuilt feature on the ESC. You know, the one you don't need when you use nitro.

All the set up changes I've done are via the program card.
The only tweak to the radio I've done is the trigger.

Chris I've always thought this , the fact is if you can use sticks then you have better control over your braking , moving your index finger forward is not a natural movement where as thumbs work both ways

Wish I could use sticks lol

Yes, But if you use a wheel you have better control over your steering!
