B4 setup sheet for Seaham? Any tips for a 1:10 n00b greatly appreciated!
Hi,
I've just bought a second hand B4 from a link on here. It came as follows: Speed passion ESC 13.5t Exceed motor 5000 lrp lipo Big bores from the 4.1 Green springs on rear white on front Unknown shock oil/pistons Ali hubs on rear Ali motor mount I ran it straight out the box as I didn't get the chance to strip down before racing on Sunday. Can you advise on a good set up for Seaham? Advice I've had so far is Schumacher spikes in yellow all round. I've looked at a few sheets from workshop but was wondering what you guys thought? I felt like I had no grip on the smooth floor at all! Any help would be very welcome Cheers, Mark |

Hi Mark,
My B4 was really good at Seaham on the folowing setup: Rear: 30wt oil silver springs (I'll bring some for you) Middle on shock tower inside on wishbone Short wheelbase 1 deg anti squat Long upper link Std toe in -2 degreee camber Front: 40wt oil Blue springs (I'll bring some you can have) Middle shock tower Outer wishbone -1 camber std caster 0 deg toe inn trailing steering blocks (std) 30 grams on top of servo, and a correctly adjusted slipper clutch. It felt reasonably safe and fast like that. Change to silver spring, 35 wt in front if you need more front end. Rideheight ... wishbones just below level.

I'll get the car setup (other than the springs) ready for the meet on Sunday. Can't wait to try it out with a good setup and some sticky tyres! Hopefully the bits I've ordered will make it through the snow! |

Also....
2 mm under front ballstud on front shock tower, 1mm on rear inner ballstud if on B4 rear brace, 0mm if on B4.1 rear brace as it has the little raised section on it.

Chris,
Just a gotcha on the springs you are going to bring, Mark has Big Bores from a B4.1, currently fitted with Green rear and white front. Based on spring rates that is 2.00 and 3.30, compared with 2.10 and 4.20 for the standard silver/blue setup. Am I right in saying that you can afford to run higher rate on big bores, because they are more progressive? Looking at that he may want harder front springs to balance with the rear rear grip he has?

Good point Ian, all of my spring references are for small bore shocks, therefore I don't have springs for you to have Mark. Sorry.
Ian is correct, you need some harder front big bore springs, rated , if possible , slightly harder than 4.

You don't need any weight on a B4 at seaham, it drives better without!

They appear to be ~12mm in diameter. Am I correct in assuming these are the B4.1 big bores? Coming into it fresh I am confused as to what is standard or not!

Yes they are big bores, what colours are the springs, black with green tracer and black with a white tracer or totally green and totally white?

I think it started off life as a RTR B4, but has had a mixture of bits added to it whilst the other chap owned it. Have a look at the pictures and tell me what you think:
I've installed the ali rear hubs and the heatsink motor mount up to now. Put the setup Chris has given me onto it except for the springs, as the ones you see in the picture are the only ones I have. The rear end setup was a right dogs dinner before I started! |

Never seen the white springs before so maybe from another car, but the shocks are definitely the older size shocks and not the big bores.....!!!

They look like tamiya springs.. They should have a small stripe of coloured paint at the end of the coil at one end to determine the spring rate..
