Default Speed Trap - RC one not 1:1..

Have a few events coming up where we thought a speed trap at the end of the straight might be a fun addition.

Basically am after a fixed trap that displays MPH of passing car on a board as they pass.

Am looking for something like this but on a larger scale that can measure the track width:

Anyone used or tried something like this before?

Cheers

Mike

hey mike, i was thinking about this, and there may be a way to do it with our current kit.

We just connect two transponder loops to a single decoder using a t-piece. then one loop starts a lap and the other stops it. I was thinking putting one half way down the straight and one at the end. We may have to test it. But i read somewhere that it works. I assume you can set the mimimum lap to zero.

I am not too sure about time resolution. as a car doing 40kph is traveling about 11.1m per second. So assume the loops are 10 meters apart the laps would be around 0.9secs

If anybody has any thoughts or experience doing these, please contribute.

Tom

it may well work that box however I don't want to drop £70 when there may be a better way of doing it for our use.

Tom, yeah in theory that would work but don't want to have to be working out each cars time as they pass through the trap area. The simpler the better.

I'm sure people have tried the Mattel Radar Gun in the past. There's plenty of hacks on 'tinternet...

There may be a way of fitting it to a tripod and triggering it remotely.
