I watched a bit of these racing last night, they looked awful!!!
The only thing I can think of is they've done this for safety, you know those crazy yanks! |

On the other hand they reduce drag so increase SPEED and I suppose they would help stop the sort of puncture vettel got in the last race.
I would'nt say no to a go in one.
