2010/11 Vintage Series Points
This week was round 1:
Pre 99: TQ and Win went to Owen Gooding and his B3, all on his own! 101 points Hopefully he will get some competition at the next round if Bill dusts off his old Schumacher (now that he's remembered why he asked for this class to be added ) Pre 94: Dave Belsten - TQ & Win with his Kyosho Optima Mid SE - 101 points Matt Lovett - 2nd Place with an awesome Tamiya Top Force - 99 points Pete Belsten - 3rd Place with an RC10 Champ Edition - 98 points Brian Spooner - 4th Place with an RC10 Team Car - 97 points All good fun with Dave and his 13.5 powered car putting in a time only marginally slower than the fastest modern 4wd. Here's to next month, which should see possibly two more RC10s plus a Traxxas from Matt. |

Was great fun, havent laughed like that in ages, nor probably driven so well... when your driving a 20 year old buggy with no spares on hand suddenly your driving gets smoother and more consistent !
Just to put it in perspective, Dave would hve been second on the grid in the 4wd 'modern' final with his 23 year old Optima Mid, and Owen would've been in the top three 2wd with his B3... Ill dust off the TRX1 for the next round, and maybe somethng like a Triumph or Astute as well. I still have my old original rear-motored Optimas too, would be nice to hear the old chain-drive in action again Ill keep the Top Force on hand though, it went well yesterday |

Yeah good fun Look forward to some more pre 99's to race
You forgot to mention a teeny tiny 2wd b3 took the overall win against the 4wd's...that surely means i would have been in the top 3 in modern 4wd as well as 2wd

Yeah i was going up until the final results O
I thought Matt Williams was going to run one off his early CATs, you never know he might drag one out... and i think Bills got a pre-99 Schumacher as well ? And Axeman i thought was going to run something too ? |

Gutted I couldn't make this. Nearly had the TRX-3 running then found out had German visitors this weekend. I couldn't really leave them & go racing after staying at their house 3 weekends in the last year.
When is the next round?

This week was round 2:
Pre 99: No one entered this week Pre 94: Dave Belsten - TQ & Win with his Kyosho Optima Mid SE - 101 points Matt Lovett - 2nd Place with a Tamiya Top Force - 99 points Dave Jackson - 3rd Place with a Tamiya Fire Dragon (somehow running a 10.5!) - 98 points Pete Belsten - 4th Place with an RC10 Champ Edition - 97 points Phil Caine - 5th Place with an RC10 Team Car - 96 points Brian Spooner - 6th Place with a Schumacher Pro Cat - 95 points Bill Pier - 7th Place with his Kyosho Lazer ZX - 94 points - this somehow survived all evening on 20 year old tyres and electrics, even down to it's Mabuchi silver can motor! Once again the front runners weren't far off the modern car's pace - will post a comparison of the fastest laps after some sleep! Championship positions after 2 rounds: Pre 99: Owen Gooding 101 points Pre 94: Dave Belsten 202 Matt Lovett 198 Pete Belsten 195 Brian Spooner 192 Dave Jackson 98 Phil Caine 96 Bill Pier 94 |

These are also in the o0ple Vintage section, but thought id put them up here as well in case some of our clubmembers don't see them over there....
And im sure i saw Andy taking some running pics of the vintage cars, can you get them up here as well dood ? My original Top Force with full Graphite Design chassis & shock towers, all running gear to Top Force Evo spec and a couple of other small original Tamiya Team mods from '93... running Vampire Lipos & MRT VX Pro brushed speedo and 17t Double motor. What can i say about this one... The fastest car ( in a straight line ! ) on the track, running a 10.5 brushless !! On the straight it pulled 6-7 feet clear on my Top Force ! If it could go round corners as good as it went in a straight line, the rest of us would've been 3 laps behind Bills original Kyosho Lazer ZX, running original tyres, silvercan mabuchi motor and period electrics. Very slow, no grip at all but Bill had us all in stitches the whole night with his running commentry of his own driving and how bad the car was I came down from one heat with tears in my eyes from laughing so much as it couldnt even get grip to get over the doubles - on carpet !! Im lending him some decent wheels & tyres and a spare old 18 double for the next round - once those are on he will be a contender as he's a hell of a good driver and his Lazer is a good car in good nick... Pete Belstens RC10 Champ Edition, a belter of a car, running Lipos & modern electrics, and its set up very, very well... And boy can he drive it - again Pete was only a couple of laps down on the modern 2wd's... Sorry about the poor photoe Pete, thats when my camera decided it had had enough The 'other' RC10, ran well, needs a period wing but in very good condition Modern electrics & mild brushless, a bit more practice & playing with set-ups and it will be as quick as Pete's... Now this was the nicest car there last night - Brians Schumy Procat with all the original Team hop-ups.. you name them, it had them ! And in such good original nick, most people would call this a shelf-queen and not let it run - credit to Brian, he was in there racing crashing like the rest of us Again, my camera was on the fritz, so rubbish picture - make no mistake ill get a better one of this car next round as its brilliant Running modern electrics & brushless, once Brians got it set up and used to driving it again it will fly ! There were 2 other vintages there last night, Dave Belstens Optima Mid and Brians sons Tamiya Lunchbox but my camera decided to retire dead before i got pics of them... Sorry ! All in all great night again, no worries or stress apart from running repairs to 20 year old plastics and more fun than ever - and there more smiles from people running vintage than there were modern cars |
