They can sound rough if built incorrectly i think. I'm sure a slack or tight mesh will be the most likely cause.

Slack or tight belts could be a problem.

Also the belt seperator not being fitted or fitted incorrectly can cause a problem.

It is also possible to build the lay shaft up so the slipper plate locking pin is fitted incorrectly, this can cause noise and excess slipping.

Also a slack slipper will cause noise / vibration.

Overtightening the motor clamp or fitting a dirty motor can may cause problems.

I have to say after building / driving many different belt cars, this one has an excellent drive train and mine is super smooth and drives like a shaft driven car with an unbelievable amount of drive.

I absolutely love my K1...

If so, does that fit because that's 4 teeth bigger than the
Schuey one.

Hans
I used an 87 tooth that a friend had spare as I stripped the schue one, no modifying went straight in, just buy a rw spur.

all tho I would like to know why there is such a big spur on the k1? Probly something to do with internal ratio? Someone explain it?

Default ratio

Hello all,

Yes, the big spur is there because of the internal ratio.
The K1 has a ratio of 1,8 hence the big spur.
What motor and pinion are you running with the 87 spur?
I think running stock is an option with a 87 spur, modified I think you
would need a 95/98 spur

Greetings

Hans

Just a note on the RW Spurs that were tested at the weekend and run perfect, these spurs do not flex no where near the amount the Schumacher own brand do, also they are 4mm not 5mm thickness , these are also lighter than the Schumacher version, over a couple of grams and stronger. Sizes from 94 to 98 are available and will make smaller but as the discussion on ratio it may not be viable.

Please contact :

neil@rwracing.co.uk

Thanks

Haven't run mine in anger yet but changing to RW spur at home certainly made it seam quieter when I tested in the garden. I've always used RW spurs in my cars when I can. And I like a nice quiet car

so its the spur gear thats the issue ?
Im using a schuy pinion on mine and its sounds terrible, im guessing the pinions are made by neal and the kit spurs in china!
Has anyone else noticed there front belt getting a little hairy on rh side like its rubbing on something?
Mines built as kit front diff shimmed one each side.

We have found with only one shim per side the diff will move side to side. Add shims to ensure not too much movement

you need to be 100% sure you have the diff side guards with the chamfer to the belt side

Hi Guys just built my K1, and it sounds like a bag of nails. All electrics are new so now dirty motor or and grit ect in the car. The noise is coming from the Mesh on the spur pinion. the spur looks to have very blunt teeth it doesn't look to mesh well at all. It looks like the Spur gear has been poorly machined or cast.

If one plays aound with the mesh it will quieten down but not as quiet as one might expect. I think it is down to the Shape of the teeth on the Spur.

Its only doing laps round the living room at the moment.

So is it a case of needing a RW gear?

Mine didn't run yet but is already noisy once motor and pinion have been fitted.

RW spurs will be quieter as always and going for a 95 might help
setting the mesh better, more loose but I think the alloy chassis does
act as a very efficient speaker.

Will report once set properly and run.

The car is amazing.
