Default Insert questions

I'm getting back into the sport and have a few insert questions....

When i raced in the mid 80's i cant remember ever using inserts or if they even existed.

Are there any situations now when you would NOT use inserts? If so what?

Don't use inserts in the Stagger Rib fronts. Apart from that they're always used.

Don't worry too much about using different inserts as a tuning aid at this point, only the superstars are likely to notice much of a difference from that sort of thing. Any of the medium foam inserts should be fine (I use Schumacher).
