A good kid's beginner RC car?
Guys, my 3 year old daughter just loves RC cars (wonder why )
I've bought a couple of toys, but I can't seem to find something that has these qualities: -proper radio (like the ones we use, stick or pistol) -proportional throttle and steering -more or less unbreakable Scale doesn't matter, but preferably small (for indoors). Don't need suspension. Preferrably low speed. Doesen't need to be 2,4 GHz. Any recommendations? International webshop would be aweseome! Cheers

Try looking at the losi mini8, great Indoors and outdoors and really strong and comes with everything. I know it might be a bit expensive for a three year old but by the time you buy a cheap one and break it then can't get spares and have to buy another the cost soon makes sense

mardave v12 with a 7.2 volt 380 motor on 4 cell nimh, geared low makes an excellent kids car especially with the abs body. word of advice though, stick some hard foam on the outside of the front and rear of the body so it doesnt make such a child satisfying bang when it hits something!

My eldest son is 2 1/2 and he drives (or tries to) an HPI Mini Trophy that I've deliberately slowed to a crawling pace.
Its a pretty big car, but he likes carrying it around and its tough enough to cope with him dropping it. The reason it works well is that the Mini Trophy has a full roll cage under its truck body - this means it survives toddlers sitting on it etc. The biggest problem isn't the car though - its the transmitter. He can use a old Futaba Attack stick radio with it on a neck strap and he just holds the sticks, but his hands aren't really big enough to grip the set any other way. But its an old 27mhz set and he just breaks the antenna so thats no good. I've tried him with a few wheel radios but his hands are far too small to go round the grip and pull the throttle trigger. That little HBX is the same as the Tomy GX I got for my son first. Its very very fast, even the slow setting is pretty nippy and the steering isn't proportional so its quite hard to control. However what is cool is the tiny toddler hand friendly radio it comes with.

Have one of these for the kids to start with, good bit of kit, can really take a beating. the only down side is when you upgrade the motor as they improve the drive shafts pop apart. but with the kit motor bomb proof

Thx a lot for all the advise guys!
That Losi 8ight looks like a pricy but good alternative! Scale seems perfect. 1:10 seems way too big for indoor use. Is the radio suited for kid hands? Can it be tamed down to a very low top speed? My 3 year old has twin baby sisters 10 months old, they'd preferably not get injured here... Is it more or less water proof? Can it be used on snow?

For Indoors you need something about 1/24th size.
Kyosho Mini-Z are fully proportional, lots of different classes. Buggies, saloon cars, F1 cars, 4wd, drift, Motorbikes,Trucks and people carriers. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mini-Z http://www.kyosho.com/eng/products/rc/index.html Not sold widely in Uk but we do have lots of stock in warehouse. |

I already have the Micro-T, but really don't like it! Crappy suspension, too much power, hard to drive. And breaks very easily. That ECX looks good! Parts supply as well! How about those smaller Team Associated models, any good? I'd like a 2,4GHz system. That 27 mHz antenna won't last long...

The Rc18 is a great little car and tough with lots of upgreads and so is the maverick strada 1/18 takes lots of abuse ,my daughter does not have a problem with 27mhz because everybody is on 2.4 Ghz. The mini t is not very fast and you slow it down alittle on the control but make sure you have a big front bumpber try the Toyz . Com the all store for mini 's and fast international shipping.

nearly forgot, get an aerial, measure it, measure a piece of wire exactly half the length of the aerial and mark, add 10mm and cut, strip one end back to the 10mm mark. visit a model shop and find a piece of plastic or fibreglass tube that will fit in the bottom of a broken aerial, thread the wire into it and insert into the broken off bit of aerial, glue in place, and glue a little toy or ping pong ball to the top, works a treat, my daughters has a little rabbit on top, my sons a little car, range is still good.
