2 of them were mine - a 120amp and a 160amp. Both were UK sourced and replaced by Schumacher under warranty.

My new 160amp (2 meetings old) started to reverse on Sunday, before the final and required turning off then back on again to clear the problem. My previous 160amp started doing that shortly before it went up in smoke.

Take a look at the Trackstar Gen1, I always used to use these and did reasonably well at club level winning a few finals against guys using branded equipment:

http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...dproduct=41121

In fact if you look on RCTech there's an entire thread on this ESC, a lot of guys in the states are raving about them saying on track they can't tell the difference between it and the branded equivalent.

I never tried the GenII in a buggy but I had a 1S Gen II in my GT12, it seemed to work well enough but was very difficult to solder up the power wires as the solder posts just unsoldered themselves from the PCB every time I tried to solder the wires to them. Eventually I just tossed the solder posts and soldered the wires directly to the PCB which didn't cause any issues. In comparison my Gen1s were always a breeze to install; I once replaced one trackside between heats using a borrowed soldering iron.

I must be honest, I did have one or two failures (I had Gen1s fitted in 3 different cars at one time) but no more than people using the more expensive stuff and HK always sorted it quickly.

The Trackstar motors are also very good but if you want a BRCA legal setup i've mated branded motors (Speed Passion etc.) with the Gen1 with no problems.

You've got my attention with the trackstar gear, what are the differences between the trackstar turbo and gen2?

The GenII is more tunable, you can do more with the throttle and brake curves although TBH I never needed half the settings on my GT12, the Gen1 itself is very tunable and IMO has everything you need.

As discussed I personally found it very difficult to solder up the GenII power wires.

The Gen1 still has solder posts but despite my best efforts at ham-fisted soldering I never managed to remove any of them from the PCB so I think on the Gen1 the posts must be attached to the PCB using a solder with a higher melting point than the stuff available to the public.

This makes life a lot easier, like I say I once replaced one in about 20 mins between heats

Did alot of reading yesterday,I believe the turbo (gen1) has had a firmware update making it the same as the gen 2 to tune.
I took a punt on the turbo after seeing a few people unhappy with the gen 2 for various reasons.

I haven't raced for a month or two so I must admit I didn't know that. Hope you have as good results with yours as I had with mine

Excellent vid, mine always came without instructions.

It is possible to get them from Hobbyking though, just view the ESC webpage from the HK international warehouse, scroll down to the bottom and click on "files" and the setup instructions are there.

I have this one:

Is it update-able?

Or are you talking about this one:
