I think that before changing car it might be worth going for a milder motor. I don't know what you are running, but slower is always easier and more consistent, and makes setup let critical. An 8.5T motor is plenty for 2WD but should feel quite mild in 4WD. I would say before changing the car change the motor as you will need a new motor for 2WD anyway.

I used to swap between 2wd and 4wd but for the last 2 years I have just run a 2wd and found it much more fun!

I am still rubbish though but at least I have a smile on my face.

Yep. A chep ezrun combo i got to get me going. Figured it wouls be enough for me whilst starting out. Still ok but sometimes wonder if a "proper" esc and motor would also help a bit.

That could be a big part of the problem, i used to run a sensorless Mamba Max esc with a sensored 6.5t losi motor and for me it was pretty hard to control/get used to and was often told when out racing that my esc/motor setup wasnt ideal so in the end i went for a sensored combo which made a BIG difference........!!!

I agree with other comments on the 2wd and 4wd side of things as in i think that 2wd is more fun to drive and more rewarding when you get it right and finish well in a race where as 4wd is still fun but is also more intense.........!!!

Try before you buy if you can but the choice is yours, either way its still fun

I feel honestly sorry for people that get hooked into saving a buck on electronics, as it always comes at a price (and that price being lack of quality). It's really not as much a matter of the motor, as it is the lack of smoothness of throttle response in a budget ESC. So between that, and people overpowering their cars (too much motor relative to skill level of the user), too many can find the hobby frustrating.
