The Primrose Valley RC Model week
Hi one and all, for those of you that have heard of and attend the annual Primrose Valley RC Model Week in Filey near Scarborough, then the following is just to keep you up to date with what's happening. For those of you that have not either heard of or attended the week, WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN HIDING???
Just a brief, the model week takes part from 12-19th May this year and as every year takes place at the Haven Holiday site in Filey, Scarborough. It's nothing to do with Haven so any questions please direct them to the organisers, who just happen to be the same bunch of smart lads who run the Boughton Raceway. Basically if it has wheels and is between 1/18 and 1/8, on or off road there will be a heat for you to race in. The aim of the week is fun racing during the day time, on the two back to back cliff top tracks, and a few beers in the Haven bars in the evenings, it's an RC car drivers dream people. The rostrum is being extended this year to comfortably hold 10 people and for the next point we need your opinions. Last year we ran a Mini cup aimed at the Tamiya Mini's, which proved a hit with 3 legged finals, this year we are opening it up abit with a standard and modified class, the basic rules will be: Standard Class: -Any ‘Mini’ Style chassis can be used (Tamiya, HPI etc etc) -Standard Tamiya silver can motors only. -Standard Tamiya ESC (or price/spec equivalent esc) -NO Chassis modifications. (ie no lengthened chassis, no pinion above 20) -Ball races are allowed -‘Mini’ Style/sized oil Shocks are allowed -Standard ‘Mini’ Wheels and tyres Modified Class: -Any ‘Mini’ Style chassis can be used (Tamiya, HPI etc etc). -Any motor may be used. -Any ESC may be used -Standard ‘Mini’ Wheels and tyres -Any hop up is allowed. Please give us your thoughts on the classes, would you prefer just standard or you like the idea of two classes?? Please check out the website for more details. www.primrosevalleyrcmodelweek.co.uk Here are a couple of pictures to get your fingers and thumbs itching...

Just depends what you want to race mate, Barry, Colin and the lads alternated the on road and off road heats in to half days, eg off road in the morning and then on road in the afternoon, then switched them round the following day and it worked well last year.
Saturday was practice all day and then we raced all week and had the finals on the Thursday. |

Hi all. like dave said we alternated it last year. alot depends on the weather, if its wet in the morning we'll use the off road to give the on road a chance to dry. basically we will go with what the majority want. we try to cater so no one is standing around for hours on end waitibg for their heat. saturday is left for practice and booking in. sunday we would love to run a round of heats, but we understand alot of people dont arrive till saturday and are usually still trying to remember what they had to fix on the car from the year before!!!

Draft timetable for Primrose 2012
Hi all. Just to give anyone attending the Primrose Valley Model week an idea of how the format of racing will take place. Of course the weather is a big factor, as is the numbers in each class/section. If we have way more off road than on road, or drivers want to run a day of on road and off road the next day, all that will be finally decided when we ask for your opinions at booking in, and if you want to let us know your opionions on here too that will give us a good idea before we got there. Many thanks all.
SATURDAY 12TH Arrive and settle in. 10am-5pm Open Practice and booking in. SUNDAY 13TH 10am-1pm Booking in (for anyone not arriving on Saturday) 10am-1pm Open practice. 3pm-6pm On & Off road rounds 1. (Or free practice) MONDAY 14TH 10am-1pm On road rounds 2 & 3. 1pm-2pm Lunch. 2pm-5pm Off road rounds 2 & 3. TUESDAY 15TH 10am-1pm Off road rounds 4 & 5. 1pm-2pm Lunch. 2pm-5pm On road rounds 4 & 5. Dates wrong
Just to let you know, the dates Colin has posted are last years!!!!!
The week runs from Saturday 12th May through to Saturday 19th May. I hope this clears any confusion up, as the correct dates are posted everywhere else. |

"Standard ‘Mini’ Wheels and tyres"
Do you mean only mini size tyres/wheels (I really hope so or I just wasted my money buying tyres ) or only the 'kit' tyres/wheels, I could understand maybe the 'kit' ones for the 'standard' class but also for the 'modified' class |

"Any ‘Mini’ Style chassis can be used (Tamiya, HPI etc etc)"
Hang on, does this mean someone can run some fancy 4WD thing in the standard class, hardly seems fair against FWD Tamiyas? Also the 20T max pinion rule would be pointless as a smaller spur could be used instead on non M-chassis cars to get the same effect?? I am not familiar with general 'mini' class rules, would this be the norm? |

It means any fwd chassis. i.e any tamiya 'm' chassis running fwd like m01,m03,m05. Or the hpi equivalent.

Hpi
I understand what he is getting at Barry, we had a guy racing an hpi mini at our club and he was miles ahead of everyone else they are 4wd belt drive and basically a touring car, even with a silver can he wiped up in the mod class.

I guess anything which is not too similar to the Tamiya M chassis, like the HPI could be classed as modified, if it was that much faster than the Standard Mini's. I must admit I have not seen the other manufactures Mini's go so it's a bit difficult to comment, but basically the standard Mini class was aimed at the Tamiya Mini's with Silver can motor.
