i would run it at 22/78 outside.
If your running indoors drop 2 teeth to start, but keep an eye on temps. Make sure you open up some vent holes on the bodyshell around the motor, as this really helped lower my temps. :-)

To be honest none of the team drivers use HPI motors in the car, Ellis runs for Orion and most of the other lads use either Vampire, Viper or Trinity motors. Your best bet may be to ask one of the HPI sponsored drivers what "ratio" they use in their car, then simply apply that to the X6 with closest you can if that helps......

I run a HPI 8.5 in my x6 and I set the FDR at the recommended in the manual that came with the motor and it was spot on at a relatively large outdoor track. Motor temp has been coming off at just over 50 degrees with no cooling holes in the shell.

We also suggest the E-Speed heatsink & fan mount. New stocks of this great part went out to X Factory UK a few days ago -- they'll have them soon. The fan is included, and it can lower motor temps as much as 10 degrees F.

Start off somewhere around 23/78 and dial in from there. Brushless motors are really sensitive to gearing, just make sure to check temps.
I was running a 6.5 Losi on 24/78, it was getting pretty hot, i dropped it down to 23 and it was quicker and cooler. I tend to find they feel 'soft' after 3-4 mins if you are running too hot. My laptimes never dropped more than a couple of tenths, but you can definately tell it was overheating. |
