i took the car out today for the first time and it was running great until i use the brakes it started making a funny noise when i put the brakes on fast or slow its all meshed right as it is smooth as. plz be nice i just wanted to know what it was plz

ok it sounds like the belt may be slipping check your belt tension, don't ask me how to do it i don't no on that car,

The drive belt is probably loose and needs to be tensioned. IIRC it's the same system as on the XXX-S Touring Car, you need adjust the wheel on the "long moving metal bit" near the spur gear so it adds tension onto the belt (tighten it up a bit at a time until it stops doing it). Sometimes it will do this anyway with heavy braking on a grippy surface.

Sounds like the belt tensioner must be too loose - because the Losi XXX-S/XXX-4 use a single drivebelt it needs to be correctly tensioned relative to the power of your motor and the surface you're running on/tyres you're using.

Look at the battery side of the car (with battery out), there's a single screw in front of the screw which holds in the spur assembly. Loosen this and then press down (with lexan spur cover removed) on the metal idler pulley tensioning bracket until there is about 1 or 2mm of up and down movement in the drivebelt up. Check the freeness of the drivetrain after this, if it's too tight then you'll generate excessive heat in the motor.

There is a black HD drivebelt kit available (Part #LOSA3277) which includes a longer black belt and larger machined idler pulley which enables you to run the belt a little looser. I bought the equivalent kit for my XXX-S TC:



A couple of clicks isn't a bad thing under hard braking but you don't want too much otherwise it'll put too much strain on the belt and not do the diff pulleys much good.

Try turning the brakes down to 80% if you have plenty at the moment.

I hardly ran it but when I did it was mainly on low grip surfaces with 10.5 turn motors so under braking the traction was never really sufficient to cause the belt to skip. It's a normal thing so don't be concerned.....sometimes you see & hear Losi's racing which make horrendous clicking noises under braking - just tighten the belt a little and it'll be fine - but not too much!

Like I say, the XXX-4 is basically a buggy version of the XXX-S touring car which I have run indoors on carpet with foam (high grip) for years - just be patient and get the correct tension for the motor you are running and the level of grip.

Again, I'm sure someone at the racing will be more than willing to help you out.

thanks it was making a naste noise with a little bit of braking and when i hit the brakes harder it sounds bad
i am using a 9 turn with a 21pinion gear

Definately the belt, it's too loose. It's designed so you can loosen/tighten it....nothing wrong with it, just set it correctly.

the screw that goes into the spur gear and the pulley wheel on the spur and to adjust pull the metal bar towards me or backwards and just the 1 screw i need to loosen thanks danny for helping me i love this car drive nice i tryed it on the grass but it was wet but i could not hear it on the grass

To tighten the belt you push the bar down a little, to loosen it lift it up a bit.........

The reason it didn't skip on the wet grass is due to the low level of traction, when there's a high level of grip and the brakees are applied enthusiastically you will get belt skip if it's not set correctly.

thanks is it just the 1 screw to the spur gear and hold it then push the bar down a bit to tight the belt its all new once i get the hang of it . i will beable to do it right without asking people

2 screws on battery side should do it.

The reason for loosening both is to allow the tensioning arm to move otherwise it may be 'pinched' by the spur assembly and be hard to move.
