personally we don't do anything with the pads,we sand down the surface of the metal plates with 800 grit sand paper until there 100% dull, then just adjust it on the track

If you are finding that it’s either on or off it could be the external gear sticking on the shaft. Undo the slipper adjusting nut take the spring/ washers off and make sure the gear slide’s freely along the shaft.

I've always tended to compress the spring a few times before installation then set it up on the track.
Also worth checking to make sure the slipper pads are located in the spur gear properly.

from time to time the slipper needs some love, mine started to get strange on me last race..
So here is what i do: -flip the slipper pads(they are glazed on one side now) -flush slipper disks with brake/motor cleaner -de glaze the disks with sand cloth on flat surface similar to diff ring maint -If i have fliped the pads already ill lightly clean with brake cleaner and scuff glaze off with sand cloth. Re set on the track. |

I have finally find the reason of my probs today.Bad slipper and slipper shaft bearing destroyed.
For maintenance i have buy U3365 slipper maintenance set ( originally made for cat sx but on the cougar car parts catalogue) The small bushing between the bearing is shorter on the cat so if you fit the maintenance kit like that on the cougar without to compare the bushing lenght ( what i didn't do) you may experienced that kind of problem. i'am sad for my son because he loose two chance to go to A final in our two first national. Difficult for a young boy to accept to be beaten by mecanical problem instead of being beaten by better driver. |
