Default Front kick up

Is 30 degree kickup always used nowadays? If you have experimented with less kickup please explain how it feels on track. To me 30 degrees is quite a lot, whats the thinking behind this...... I havent been involed in offroad for a very long time.
Does less kickup give less on power steering?

I know on the B4 you can change the castor blocks to either 20 , 25 or 30 degrees, which I would assume is similar to kickup
From my experiance less castor gives you less turn in and more on power steering and more castor gives you more intial turn in and then can be a bit understeery when exiting the bends. I also think that with more castor the car is better through the bumps too. I normally use the 30 degree blocks, but occasionally go to the 25 degree ones and drop a front spring rate to keep the initial turn in.

Kick-up is the angle of the chassis at the front, different to castor. Thats the angle of the steering hubs

no the kick up is set by the bulkhead and chassis, the angle the innner hingpins sits on is the angle of kick up

the wishbones will be at the same angle no matter what caster blocks you put on.

Caster blocks change the angle the out side hing pins sit at.

i have added washers and shims of diffrent sizes to change the angle of kick up , i placed the shimz under the rear of the buklhead to decrese the angle

I ran 30s at tivy, as lee told me to

but tom yardy makes me run 25s outdoors if feels better on 25s to me

Isn't it all the same thing though? The 25 degree castor blocks are drilled parrallel, so they neither add or remove any of the kick-up angle, but we still call them 25 degree blocks.....

G as has been said kick up is tha angle of the inner ninge pins relative to the chassis, the caster block alters the "king pin" granted the kick up is ratalter to caster when the kick up is altered but caster changes do not alter kick up

"Yeah I know" but what effect do they have? Aren't they the same?

And why do 4wd's have less?

no because when you change the kickup, you change the pivot angle for the castor blocks,so that has a knock on effect for the amount of camber induced at full lock,it would be different for a 25 and 30 degree kickup even tho you could set the total castor up the same thru +/- castor blocks.

Kick up has never really been explained to me too well, what are the actual effects, side effects etc of it? another thing i never understood is why you run caster at all, the way i think of it it's like having the wheels part way to being steered at 90 degress to the floor, meaning at full lock they steer like a bike and have very little contact patch ! A small amount might help with the cambering effects of cornering, but 25 and 30 degrees always sounded kinda extreme to me, they're fairly big numbers when you work with 0-4 degrees toe or camber

Because on a 4WD, the front wheels are driven, so kick-up also acts in the same way anti-squat does at the rear.

Why do you ask, Northy, Pred's don't have any!
