2wd micro construction rules
i built a 2wd prototype a while ago using rc18b parts, recently saw it mentioned that a 2wd has to have a stacked gear gearbox, mine has the rc18 gearbox which is not a stacked gear box, does this mean it is not raceable any more, i try and build my cars to race, even though it doesnt happen very often. i know my converted tc3 would be fine under 1/16 rules but i have always liked 2wd and would have liked to have a go at it. as i said the car is rc18 based and of very similar dimensions to an rc18 so would fit into 1/18 scale, if it is not legible to run as a 2wd, can it be run in a 4wd class?

Yes I'm sorry to say to run in 2wd the buggy has to have a stacked gearbox at the rear only so put it back to 4wd and come and have some fun in 4wd. Ashley brca micro section PRO

sounds like an interesting concoction you've got there!
this years uk-microx race (which is free to enter) is running to 2010-2011 micro section rules, http://www.uk-microrc.co.uk/ukmicrox2010/rules. so that will give you an idea of what is legal in which class. In order to split the classes running of 2wd in 4wd and vice versa is not allowed at sanctioned events, but no club i know of will stop you running on a club night. if you can make it 4wd drive again, that would give you entry to all of the nationals, if you want to of course! |

never mind. will just have to be a shelfer then. shame cos it goes really well. i have my 4wd i can run in 1/16 anyway, i just really like 2wd. cannot convert back to 4wd on this car, it has specially made carbon tub chassis. why only stacked gearbox then, is it to stop people running sharks etc in 2wd class?? what stacked gearboxes are available other than the losi and thunder tiger ones

Yes, it was to stop the all dominating shark, conquering the 2wd class as well.
Thanks,

what is the stacked gearbox going to be defined as, would it have to contain idler gears? does it have to be commercially available?? could make one to fit given time and some thought. 1/10 ones just seem too big for somethine essentially the size of an rc18. wouldnt be too bad on something a little larger.

did have a look at the link, could see it was built as 1/16 from the wheels and size in relation to the gearbox. have seen it on ukmicrorc before. it does look good, i might just have to make a 1/16 2wd for the hell of it. interesting way of doing the wheel bearings on the front, i take it you used the b4 front axle and shimmed to give a good fit on the wheels

Basically as long as it doesnt have bevel gear type arangement (ie. it's not a shark) then you're laughing.
You could possibly use the RC18 diff and mountings but fit a mini t diff gear, then run a mini t layshaft straight onto it to give a 2 gear box. I did look at this myself for a shark conversion but never did get around to it. Should be too difficult to do for you're little beastie Sooty |

was looking at doing that but being me i was looking at modifying a spare b3 diff gear

That's probably a better idea actually, with a B3 layshaft and slipper?
Will give you a little more space between the diff and motor your way. |
