Default Drescher tries out Deerdale, Sloppy wins

Sunday 14 Feb 10 saw round 5 of the 6 round winter championship at Deerdale with some close, and big name racers. The day started of quite cold for the 27 truggy and 34 buggy drivers. First of all, the buggy.

Qualifying for the buggies saw a mixed bag of results. Not only to the regulars but also to racers who was attending the track popularly for the first time. After the qualifying had finished the FTD went to John Holmes.

1st John Holmes with a 2nd 2nd and 1st place
2nd Graham Alsop after a tie break with Bruce Thompson who qualified 3rd. They were then followed by Richard Taylor and Craig Drescher was 5th
6th Nick Simpson
7th Dave Grunhill
8th Rachel Merry
9th Rob Cork
10th Alex Mortimer

The first final was the C final which Peter Watt, Adam Catchpole and Leigh Richardson all bumped up to the B Final. The B final was for 15 min which resulted in the following being bumped up to the A final Dave Bailey, Adam Catchpole and Martin Pearson. The A final was a 20min race around the technical, challenging and enjoyable Deerdale track. The results are as follows.

1st Graham Alsop 28 / 1237.57
2nd Richard Taylor 27 / 1243.36
3rd Craig Drescher 26 / 1203.27
4th Dave Bailey 26 / 1204.81
5th Bruce Thompson 26 / 1213.97
6th John Holmes 26 / 1245.53
7th Dave Grunhill 26 / 1248.61
8th Nick Simpson 25 / 1238.07
9th Alex Mortimer 25 / 1239.81
10th Adam Catchpole 25 / 1240.16
11th Martin Pearson 24 / 1180.18
12th Rachel Merry 24 / 1227.48
13th Rob Cork 20 / 953.49

The championship now stands with Graham Alsop with his HotBodies D8 in pole position to winning the championship. Third, forth and fifth are still up for grabs though

1 Graham Alsop 100%
2 Bruce Thompson 98%
3 Dave Grunhill 94%
4 John Holmes 93%
5 Martin Pearson 92%

Now onto the truggies. The truggy class has always been a highly competitive class at Deerdale and this winter series has been no different. At the end of the qualifying, Custom Built Racing owner Tony Drabble was leading the field with his Hotbodies D8T but he was being closely followed by the LRP of Jordan Banks and the MBX6T of Jim Murphy. The top 6 places had been changing all day and the results are as follows for them top 6 places.

1 Tony Drabble
2 Jordan Banks 7 / 317.58
3 James Murphy 7 / 331.20
4 Michael Lee
5 Stan Gill
6 Steve Bond

Onto the finals. Again it started off with the C final which was won by Dean Coupland in 1st place followed by Tony Middleton and Chaz Blake. Dean Coupland then went on to win the B final with Tony middleton and Colin Gibbon all going into the 20 Min A final. The A final, saw a big change in places as people were having car or engine problems. At the end of the 20 min the LRP trio of Bondy , Stan and Jordan took the top three places on the podium. This has now made the final places very interesting for the final round. The championship stands as follows

1st Stan Gill 98%
2nd Tony Drabble 95%
3rd Michael Lee 95%
4th James Murphy 94%
5th Dean Coupland 93%
6th Jordan Banks 92%
7th Wayne Bramley 92%
8th Jack Keatley 90%
9th Vince Ping 90%
10 Dean Payne 89%

Things could change quite dramatically though as Bondy who is in 21st place, as he has only done 3 rounds, could come and steal the thunder on the final push to the line. So when is it this will take place on 14th March 20010
