SX3 to KF diff
I thought I could use an sx3 ball diff with kf pully and fences in my kf. I had an almost new diff that I thought would be good to use in the kf.
Just tried to swap to the new pully and the hole in the middle is bigger than the sx3 pully. Has anyone tried this and come across the same problem. Thanks. |

I havent tried what you are talking about, but yes they are different and not compatible unfortunately.

I thought the SX3 or K1 diff would fit in the KF with the pully and side plates. Looking at the manuals for the SX3 and K1, they both use the same size bearing 5x10x3 and that is too small for the KF pully.
Is there a difference with the K1 and KF ball diff ? Thanks |

As cakes said. there has been a handful of us running sx3 diffs in the KF ( extra shim ) successfully for a few months now.

Chaps, your missing what the poster is asking, are the pulley (plastic moulding) compatible with the SX3/KF, not the complete diff.

Are you sure that it is an SX3 diff and not an older one which will use 5x9 bearing?

Thanks for the help,
I think it's an SX3 (purchased second hand) IMAG0354.jpg Just had another look and could probably just run the SX3 (?) diff, as it looks wide enough to make up for the offset, however it's got a different number of teeth on the pulley, and look a slightly different size ! Here is a picture of the two pulley's and you can see the one has a large diameter hole. IMAG0356.jpg |

Both the SX3 and K1 use the same bearings in the diff's, U3855 5x10x3.
The SX2 uses a different bearing in the centre of the pulley, U2574 5x9x2.5, as pointed out by DCM. |

Well it looks like an SX3, just compared to some pictures, so now really confused. I will see if there are any Schumacher experts around at Kiddy Regional this weekend to have a quick look.

SX3 Pulley fences look to be just flat rings, but the SX2 have a lip on them, more like a hollow top hat. Could be an SX2 pulley that you have.

Can you put up a picture of the outdrives as it's the easier way to tell. The car in the pic is a sx3 but the front outdrives look wrong as they are shiney like the sx/sx2 ones where the sx3/k1 should be black and wider.

That explains it, looks like previous owner put sx2 diffs in it. They have the top hat fences and slightly polished outdrives.
Do any other diff parts fit, I have an unbuilt sv2 diff somewhere, would that work with the kf pully and fences. Thanks |

Just tried and sv2 outdrives are smaller !
Oh well, worth a go. |

Alternatively if you wanted to use the outdrives you have a MI2-EC pulley would give you about the right sort of offset.
