Vortec Problems

I bought a orion vortex motor a few weeks back and when i bought it i found that one of the screws on the endbell has not got a hex in it. So i sent it to mirage and now they are reffusing to replace it as they said i rounded it off. The screw clearly hasnt had the full finish applied as the screw is brown and the others are black. So i want to know what you think i should do. I could get a new screw and just replace it myself but that isnt the point as you dont spend 75 quid on a motor for it to be dodgy. So i think im going to ring mirage back again and speak to someone in charge. Or even go straight to orion. what do youthink???

Mail Orion directly - maybe send them a photo of it. I'm surprised that Mirage didn't sort you out if there was a manufacturing problem with it. I guess at the end of the day though, it's a brushless, so stick it in and forget about it

i wouldnt get there back up straight away and threaten things like that ...
try the nice approach 1st .. you will amazed sometimes how much that can work ...

Already tried that paul. I tried being nice so if that doesnt work go to there superiours butall the lines are busy at themoment.

can i just ask why you need to take the screw out ??
like jimmy said its a brushless .. stick it in and go ...
ive never taken mine to bits at all since ive ran them ...

I know but what happens if i do need to take it apart!!! what happens if i get a stone in there(as it had lots of large holes in the side) and when i need to oil the bearings etc etc. If you bought a washing machine and it had a dent in the side and the washing machine still worked you would take it back and ask for a replacement. So its the same with the motor its the pricaple of it.

ash, seeing as you paid £75 for it i take it you bought it from a shop in the uk. my first point of call would be that shop, you purchased the goods from them and its up to them to sort it not you!

I doubt racer will publish anything against mirage due to a screw. Just 1 screw is hardly worth going to trading standards.

Cut a slot in it with ur dremel, will come out easy as pie, and replace it.

And chill.... this screw is driving you nuts

Ok!!

Looking at the screw the screw is brownish which is making me and my dad think that the screw hasnt had its finished coat of hardener on it. So it looks like as the machine or person has wound the screw in it has rounded the hex off or wat ever there was of it. Because the other two where really tight and i got them out fine.

you then post you got the other 2 screw's out fine, so you have tried to take it apart WHY!!!!

Also, Have you used the motor? sounds like it, as you want to take it apart. Why didn't you report the fault before using it?

Ok story goes.

I bought it then i ran it at oswestry 4wd regional. Thats sunday night i take it apart to see if there is much dirt in there as the track has gone ducty buy the end of the day in places and the underside of the chassis has some dirt on it and as the vortex has large holes for cooling in the can i though dust might have got in do i go to take it apart and i cant get the back plate off. So its been at mirage since the friday of the week after.

What???? There was no hex in the screw head. I put my allen driver in turned nothing just spun around in the head.

if there was no hex then can't Mirage see that, and how was it inserted? Take a photo, that's what I do, I don't send stuff off before they agree to take it back anyway.
