I am running a Hobbywing ESC like Gunter, and Turnigy Trackstar 21.5T motor set to zero timing. Quite a few others at the club also run this great cheap motor. I have been running with the sensor lead disconnected as an experiment to see how it works, as this is proof of running no boost timing - which is a rule we use at the club. It works but the low end response isn't as good. The main reason my car is so fast is because my car maintenance is very good (I give it a blow down every 6 weeks) and I am an amazing driver.
