T4 wheels on a B4

Hi,

I just got a B4 FT and I was wondering if T4 wheels would fit on it. Would I need T4 front axles ? Is it a lost cause ? Has anyone tried it ?

Was it Belsten? I recall it was still accelerating 3/4 of the way down the straight (nose starting to skip like a speed boat - the 3.5T motor may also have had something to do with it), and then it would corner like a tractor (i.e. roll over).

Holy smokes, a 3.5T in a 4x2 !? That's not a tractor, that's a dragster - or both, it does look like a tractor pulling.

So it seems it would fit on the rear, but for the front?

The B4, T4 and old SC10 all use the same wheel fitment front and rear.

I thought the original wheels were still on there and the 8th ones wedged over the top!

I stand corrected.

My thinking would be to try SC10 wheels, as the SCT wheels are a bit narrower, and thus less likely to foul the chassis at full steering lock.

Take a look at the Kyosho DB - it's a 1/8th or 1/9th buggy, using SCT chassis, suspension and wheels (only the bumper and shell are different). It might give you a few ideas - T4 or SC10 chassis, etc. Or go the whole hog with a JConcepts J82 T4 conversion.

I did consider building a Dakar style chassis (with a Tamiya Touareg shell I have) - wheelbase is spot on for a buggy (most likely a 4wd), but would need short wishbones and driveshafts, and of course scale wheels/tyres - Tamiya CC01 stock ones would do nicely, and their lack of grip would prevent the car rolling!

I put my stock SC10 wheels on the back of my B4 and it would roll really bad in the corners and the inside tyre would lift, ballon up as it spun up and the car would stop.
Fast in a straight line, especially as the tyres started to balloon up.

I started RC a few months ago, and I'm hooked! Got a 2nd hand X6 squared, love it. Recently I saw a cheap B4 FT for sale and thought it could be a great source for broken parts or another car to lend to friends for bashing/training. Then I wondered if I could use it to enter truck races. The category is slowly dying where I come from, I think it's a shame.

The rules for the truck category are :
- Maximum dimensions 460x330x200mm, no problem there
- Minimum weight 1700g, can do with some additional leads
- Minimum wheel dimensions 60mm height, 48mm width, can't fake it there.

Minimum weight for SC is 2098g, that's an awful lot for a B4 chassis.

So, if I can fit full truck wheels on a B4 that's great news. If not... too bad, I'll just race my awesome X6

rear truck wheels will fit straight on but you will need the front t4 axles as the b4 ones are slightly to narrow

...and the answer is... It works out of the box! No need for T4 axles, they don't even fit in the steering blocks. I put a pinion two teeth smaller than usual to keep temperatures reasonnable. Weight is more than 1800g.

It handles very decently. Not as sharp as a buggy, but not too bad either. On wet-ish astro I even found it easier and more consistent. Disclaimer : this is my first and only car so I have no point of comparison.
