DEX210 Gear Diff
Hi all,
Just ran my new DEX210 yesterday and was very happy but the diff didnt last long. Anyway I have ordered new ceramic bud balls and was also wondering if A) The DEX210 gear is available yet and in stock anywhere B) If not will the SC10 fit well with a bit of shimming C) What oil are most of you guys running Thanks in advance for the help Stephen |

210 Diff
Hi Stephen
When you say it didn't last very long what do you mean. If it fails it is usually that the circlip has not been fitted correctly. Try rebuilding it using the guide on the Durango website. http://www.team-durango.com/blog/201...ild-guide-pt1/ I have run my car at about 6 race meetings now with rc Lazy diff balls. And i have found it to be the best ball differential i have had in any car ever and i have been racing for over 25 years. Let us know how you get on. Paul

Hi Paul,
I think I ran it too loose to begin with and now it seems the balls are worn and when I tighten the diff up it seems to me that the diff plates are rubbing on the plastic, if you follow me. I got one of the regular guys to look at it track side and he said the same. Can this happen to a new diff and so soon. I noticed when I first built the diff the balls could fall right through the gear. I have only built on road diffs and the balls usually sat nice in the hole - just clicking in. I did follow the video and tightened it up (I thought) to the point where I couldnt turn the diff by hand when holding both outdrives. Lesson learnt as I now know the difference between a diff squealing or a slipper clutch slipping ha Have bought the DEX210 after years out of off road as I usually do TCs. spoke to Paul about the diff...the c clip is sided...also stretch the clip as much as possible before installing...if all else fails a b4. diff fits right in..lots of people are using b4 diff apparently..

Has a look on rctech.net on the Dex210 thread as someone has fitted a gear diff from te Armma range of cars, from what I read it drops in.....

Shouldnt be worn out. I built mine with kit balls and its still going strong. Mine was one of the first batch and has raced several meetings. I've bought a set of Buds balls to fit but thought I'd leave it until the kit ones are finished. So far, so good!

Most people i know have fitted a sc10 2wd diff in theirs, i've got one but not fitted it yet want to see how the ball diff stands up with lazy ceramic balls.
Another couple of meetings then do a swap and compare the results!

I actually worked at it last night and I can hear the c clip 'popping' as I tighten the diff - its coming out of its housing and when I loosen it pops back it. have tried widening it as far as possible, tightening in increments and same thing happens. I am not tightening too much just to the point where it moves by hand. If you move the diff by hand after about 30secs you can actually hear a small pop and suddenly the diff feels tighter but is slipping. Have ordered new C clips and see if that helps, but will wait for the TD gear diff I think (unless a new c clip doesnt work). Just out of interest, I seen these clips for DEx210 diffs guys - much cheaper than a tenner for 4 from some shops!! Mine is exactly the same as above. Either the slot in the diff half is crap or the whole idea with the c-clip won't work.
Shame someone tried to reinvent the wheel on such a crucial part... |

A lot of diffs use the cir clip method now, both Xray tourers I've had for example. I'm happy with the diff in my 210 but I will be changing to the gear diff when it's available.

The original diff that came with my kit must of done around 6hours of racing/practice. Rebuilt it with ceramic balls and refaced the diff plates with wet and dry and its done around the same amount of running as the original and still feels super smooth. The 210 diff is by far the best diff about and I have owned an xray T2/T3, cougar, b44 and the diffs in all of them dont stay smooth for long at all.

The kit circlip is made of stainless, and has very little spring to it. Quite a few of us in the States have replaced the clip with an Xray clip #966080 or similar which are made of a spring steel, they are much better..
