Hi Dez, myself im a steering wheel sort of guy....but as a team were a mix match of wheel and sticks.
Were just going to swap the modules between the TX's, I think some of the team drivers have found a couple more ppl interested. So i will keep you posted Dez.

Thanks for the offer though

I know i'm probably generalising, but back when i was running brushed i did get some of the Ansmann Clash motors which are basically the same as the Saturn motors, I imagine it would be a similar story for the saturn motors.

i used to use the Clash motors to keep race spec motors fresh & go out & practice with the clash motors because they were cheaper than replacing brushes, wrecking comms etc when trying to get a good car set-up where race speed conditions wasn't really that important but going to take it's toll on the motor because of a days heavy testing at the track. What i found was the lower wind motors tend to wear faster - stupidly fast the lower the wind goes, especially if using a gear ratio that favours acceleration over top end speed.. the clash 15 i think lasted me a morning tops before it went in the bin, the Clash 18's were better but gutless after a few runs & needed fettling with brasso & wet dipping to lift them back up again, the 21t motor though seemed to go on forever & is probably the best of the bunch i've got one sitting in my F1-09 at present & as for the 23 motors they are so slow you may as well just push the car round to get a faster run or if you have kids who you need to slow down, stick the 23 in their car.

IMPORTANT NEWS:

Control Tyres
Will be Sorex 32 with JB inserts on Kit wheels. All sets will be marked and can not be pre mounted. i.e they need to be purchased (at cost) on the day. 1 set will be available to purchase this Saturday or Sunday (28th and 29th) for the official test weekend. We will have an assembly table where they are to be glued up and will be marked by either myself or Ian. We believe the cost will be around £21 a set.

The tyres that came with the kit will be used during the event during the wet weather simulation periods so please ENSURE you bring those with you and also it would be to your benefit to test with those tyres and wheels too and maybe find your fastest driver on them.

Our test currently show that you may be able to complete the entire 24hrs on 1 set!! however 2 sets of 'Race Tyres' per team will be available. (1 set that you can collect on the 28th or 29th, another set during the 24hr race and of course the 'wet weather' kit tyres).

Gearing
This event is now open gearing, we are not setting or enforcing the gear ratio. Although I believe the gearing we supplied is correct, with others reporting higher temperatures after 5 minutes racing than I got with a 30 minute test I will leave it up to you to select the right gearing for your driving style. So just to recap, Gear Ratio is now YOUR choice.

Format and costs for this weekend (28th and 29th May)
Saturday is Open Practice Format. Doors open at 10:00 and close at 18:00. 1 set of control tyres will be available to purchase at cost.

Saturday practice is £25 per team or £5 a person for the entire day, whichever is the cheaper. This is less than half price and just covers wear and tear and staffing.

Sunday is Club race day and if we have 6 or more 24hr cars we will run a heat for the 24hr cars that is 30 minutes long! If less than 5 cars they will be 10 minute heats. Cost is £15 for the entire team. Doors open at 09:00 and racing normally finishes around 15:00 depending on numbers.

Both days are completely optional.

See you on the 11th June if not before :-)

Anyone got any unanswered questions?

So, which teams are testing on over the weekend? I know we (Worcester) will be there on one if not both days.

In the grand scheme of things 10min heats could be a waste of time. Thats not even time to practice pit stops. So lets try to get a good turn out.

Have to express my personal dissapointment at the open gearing rule - could we wait and see what the lie of the land is say lunchtime Saturday? Having spent weeks looking at cooling options this seemed like a real challenge, now its taken a lot of the reward for effort and expertize out of the race.

Team DRCC will be out in force Saturday, look forward to seeing you there!

SPC team won't be there I don't think as we have a round of the series on this weekend but appreciate andy general feedback and info that any teams would be willing to share leading up to the event.

I would also prefer a fixed gearing, Keep all the cars the same.

Although i can see the point in there being people saying there should be a fixed gearing rule, in hindsight i think i would prefer if there wasn't, after all the event is a team event & the aim is endurance i.e. making the car last, so leaving the rule in leaves 2 choices.. do you gear the car to get maximum speed where-by you run is the risk of wearing out the motor &/or reducing performance or gear to save the motor & play the tortoise rather than the hare to try & win the event.

Personally i think it should be a team decision for the team to decide upon the gearing chosen & thus becomes a tactical choice for each team to consider, rather than an enforced rule that could be open to question later if it was a good/bad idea.

Hi, I understand but please take three things into account.

1) Originally I wasn't going to release the cars until this weekend anyway, but I gave in to pressure to let you have them early as people wanted to re-build them (my mistake I should have stuck to my guns).

2) I have had a team say they are cooking their motors, and i've had one say it's fine. If I fix the gearing and everyone burns out their motors then who will be responsible? Me. therefore it's going to be open gearing and the cooling you have put in will still give you an advantage as you can run at whatever ratio you want without risking your motor.

3) I bought 15 pinions that might no longer be needed :-(

So advantage still to you :-). Those that haven't looked at cooling will always have to factor in a compromise of speed and heat, or slow and cool.

John.

Ive got my dates across and thought the test was last weekend which we couldn't make, but if its this weekend then we can. I'd have to get the shell sprayed but I might be able to get it done this week tho. Plus we're having the cars sent to us but if we're coming down on Sat we could pick them up and prep them on the day and save on postage.

Don't know what would be best without messing everyone about. Sorry John

unforunatley team Essex Monsters will not be there on saturday, most of us are at the SPC this weekend, so good luck to all at the testing day

So as I read it

Race Tyres, Inserts and wheels will be supplied to us, at cost mentioned, on the testing day as well as the race day?

great, that means no more worries about finding the correct wheels and tyres now,

looking forward to this now.....
