Thats a pretty good base setup, just lower your neutral width down to about 15 and current limiter down to 90. Should be good to go then

If your still on an 18t then go up to a 21t and try with the new speedo settings, im pretty sure you will notice the difference

Thanks for your help. I'll give it a quick run on Friday and see what the difference is like

Thanks.

I go back and forth with an 8.5. I either run 100% timing advance in dual mode or go to Timing profile 1 or 2 in sensored only mode. Use 212 software and you swap timing profiles on the unit without a computer.

Default A little help and advice needed please...

A little help and advice needed please...

I'm a fairly experienced 8th off road racer, but am a bit of a noob when it comes to 10th electric. I've just bought a DEX410v3 to run through the winter, and having done a bit of practice on Saturday, have encountered an issue where I can't run for 5 mins.

After about 3 1/2 to 4 mins, I get intermitted cutouts where I loose all power to both motor and servo. This comes back after a few seconds and power seems to be okay for a short while before cutting out again. When I first hit the track all seems to be good; good power etc, it just seems to cut out after a period of time. Temps don't seem to be too high (I didn't actually temp the motor but I could happily hold my finger on it for a while), and the speedo (Tekin RS) was flashing 3 leds in a row followed by the 4th on on it's own. The cells took less than 2000 mah following each run.

Setup is as follows;

Durango DEX410
Orion 90C cells (brand new)
LRP 6.5 motor (brand new)
Tekin RS
Gearing 87/22 pinion
I haven't adjusted the timing on the motor endbell so I'm not sure what that is as stock, or even if you can adjust it?

On the Tekin I'm running the latest firmware and the following settings;

Boost - 10
Start rpm - 5443
End rpm - 20000

Turbo settings are all on zero/off

Motor type - forward only
Voltage cutoff - 2s
Sensored drive mode
Motor direction - reversed (I had to reverse this to get it to run forwards, is this normal?)
Throttle profile - 3
Current limiter - 85

Drag brake - 10
Brake strength - 100
Reverse off
Neutral width - 10
Push control - off

No doubt I'm being a muppet and doing something wrong, but any help or advice would be much appreciated as I'm at a bit of a loss as to where to start!

It sounds like it might be a thermal problem. You are on the limits of the RS (non pro) really with a 6.5 in a 4wd.

You say there are only 3 lights flashing? Is this directly after it's stopped? As the temperature does come down really quickly. Do you have a fan in there?

Kev

Just had another look at your settings. You shouldn't have to run reverse direction, are your 3 motor wires connected correctly?

If you are running sensored, the motor timing will be reversed also, which may be your problem.

Also, I run dual mode which will help keep the temps down.

RS would be on the thermal limit, which could cause the shut downs....

Runing in Sensored mode will really ramp the heat up, this is what I run.

Dual Mode
Limiter 85
Neutral Width 8
Brake Strength 100
Reverse Strength 0

Everything else as per factory setting.

Also, if you need to have it in reverse motor, swap a pair of motor wires over.

InsideLineRacing and DCM, thanks for your input.

Firstly, temps; Defo 3 lights flashing directly after it has stopped (well, say 30 seconds by the time I removed the shell). It felt cold to the touch tbh. I don't run a fan.

However, you mentioning the motor direction Kev made me look at the car this morning - all motor wires are definitely in the right place, but my diffs are inverted!!! Stupid mistake as I had assumed the screws in the gearboxes would be facing up as they are in the DNX408, but they need to face down towards the chassis in the 410. Idiot.

So, I'll stick it in dual mode and change the reverse direction.

You mentioned Kev that running the motor in reverse will result in negative timing - will this in essence reduce the overall power output? I have to say I thought the car would be quicker than it was.

Would you mind explaining the difference between Boost and Turbo on the Tekins? I'm assuming Boost is timing and Turbo is, well, a turbo that gets added after a period of time?

Have you heard of anyone else running the std RS with a 6.5 - I have run stock TC over the past few winters to keep me busy and warm, and have just used the speedo I used in the TC!

And lastly, do you think I will have done any damage to anything?!

Thanks again.

Yeah you should have an RS Pro in a 4wd car. Although 3 led's isn't very hot. Take a read here: http://www.teamtekin.com/hotwire_RS.html

Thanks Randy - would the RS be okay in a 2wd, say with a 7.5t?

Check what motor type you have selected, 1+2 & 6+7 is incorrect motor.

Also, check for a broken motor wire or poor solder joint.
