Best brushed ESC

I've been looking at the Tekin FXR Pro, any good?

It's not for crawling, normal brushed only racing using only NIMH cells

I havent used brushed for a while and I wouldnt imagine that r/c companies have invested much time in it since brushless became widely used, so I would say LRP Quantum Competion and Nosram Dominator Power would still be pretty good.

I'd imagine you could pick up a previously top end speedo pretty cheap now.

Or you could alternatively go for something new that can do both (but the price does go up)

Second hand market is going to give you the most choice, unfortunately they are getting harder to find for the few of us that still race with brushed motors. I assume you are running a Mini, my car has a Keyence Rapida Pro which is a superb ESC if you can find one and extremely well made. The Nosram and LRP Quantums are popular in other racers cars, they were very popular back in the day so plenty around in pitboxes and the QC3 has a LiPo cutoff which is handy.

Yes for my Tamiya Mini. Only allowed silver can and NIMH cells. Done all the other motor tricks and run the Tamiya 105 ESC. Just wondering if a better ESC will give me a bit more beans. I need reverse too.

I use to have a novak xrs in my mardave. They are blisteringly fast and a small footprint too. Ebay have them but only from the states I think.

Back in the day the MRT MX Pro was the best budget esc, it used to be about £100 new. The all singing and dancing weapon of choice was made by Keyence, think it was called the Rapida, it was a £300 esc back then. Both can be picked up cheap enough second hand now. The MRT would be my choice.

Almost all the ESCs listed above are forwards only, so useless for you.

The best new ESC by far is the Tekin FXR Pro, low resistance and tiny. At the cheaper end Mtroniks still make brushed ESCs, there's the RVMax and Tio Storm X. There's the LRP Sphere, LRP SPX Super Reverse, Castle Mamba Max and Castle Sidewinder which are all both brushed and brushless. For the old style brushed only ESCs look for KO KSC1100FR, LRP F1 Pro, Novak XRS, Tekin Rebel2.
