Has anybody thought of the fact that the taper might be needed on a different car?

who's to say its not for aero efficiency?

Its nice to see 'new' stuff, or stuff that crosses from 8th to 10th, TC to 10th or 10th to anything else

10 years on, how much quicker around the track will cars be?

The tapered bottoms have been done to allow the spring to sit better and tighter onto the shock bottom. Not a bodge job at all, and was done deliberately to allow the big bore's to be used with the current shock bottoms. As for the shocks themselves, they performed fantastic at the Players on both mine and Grants car. I actually only went down 1 spring rate from when i ran at RHR.

Springs don't compress evenly throughout their length.. the ones at the top and bottom will begin to touch before the ones in the middle.. however, if the ones at the bottom fit inside each other rather than sitting on top of each other this could maintain a more constant compression load throughout the suspension travel.

Or it could just be to look fancy.

You could be cynical and state that, by tapering the spring, it means that Schumacher then do not have to make specific ball cups and spring retainers for that one car, but can use generic parts.....

or

By coning in the bottom of the spring, it allows for a slightly longer spring, which shouldn't get coil bound, but by tapering the bottom, allow for extreme angles of the shocks too.

Definately an interesting concept (one of the better ones, from Schumacher) and if it allows the car to drive better, then who cares!

Some of this guess work is quite amusing, well, keeping me amused anyway! Loving the guesswork.

They are quite a lot bigger than the std ones, and when i tested them, there was quite a big difference in feel.

maybe the shocks are not just fatter, they maybe allow more compression/extension.... to me a spring that shape would be progressive and not linier!

I think they are really the standard cat shocks and the spring taper is there to give you an optical illusion of big bores so that you all go and buy a new set to try them....genius

Considering the last few option parts (LiPo chassis and top deck, different rear shock mount position), it would really make sense!
