CAT SX Shocks

Has anyone found that the shocks are a bit leaky? After I built the front shocks with 25wt I found the spring holder covered in oil after being left overnight. After I rebuilt them with 30wt it seemed to take longer to come through before the bottom of the shaft showed signs of oil. I have taken off the rear shocks to put o-rings to avoid the shaft hitting the diff output cups and fond the read shocks are showing the same issue. Not sure if I have done anything wrong as I followed the manual. Does anyone do them differently? Should I use some shock slime to help the seal?

Haven't raced mine yet, but been sat here static for a week and not leaked a drop.

The O'rings should swell a tad and seal. It may just be newness, and mine have a little oil on the cups too - just a little.

If it persists, rebuild them with AE green slime.

I did look at using some whities but I think the sizes are too different to make a decent fit.

I have just gone around and slimed all of the shocks. All good to go now

Not that I have a Schumacher but Chris is right, I always soak new seals for 1/2 hour before building kit up to avoid them leaking for the first couple of days.

Thanks Dan I never knew you should do that. I put shock oil over the o-rings as I put them in but it makes sense with them swelling to make a better seal.

Just checked mine that have been built for 4 days and the spring cups are bone dry do as dan and chris have said, i also soaked the o rings

I think some of the team have been using my o-rings, but not 100% sure.....

I've used whities in mine, as i noticed with the blue Schumacher ones the shocks were leaking a little.
Didn't know about the soaking tip though, so it looks like i'll be stripping and re-building the shocks for the 3rd time, before i've even run the car

After soaking the blue schumacher ones in oil overnight, they have swelled up much more than i thought they would, hopefully no more leaks

Can they swell to the point where they cause binding in the shock?

Again not Schumacher shock specific but over a very long time (months say) they do keep swelling up a little which causes more friction that normal which is why you should change your seals as a matter of course every few months say (some do it even more).

When I rebuilt my Losi shocks 1/2 way throughout the outdoor season and went from 3 month old Losi ones to new (soaked) Nortech Whities, the difference in friction (stiction) sliding them in your hand was very noticable.

This year ive changed the seals every meeting. As Dan says, u don notice the difference.

Question for si or matt, What length shocks do you run for indoor and outdoor ? Is it used as a tuning aid for droop ?
