Default big belt on the SX

the original belt I got on the SX looked a little frayed when I got the car, but still lasted a few months before finally snapping.

new one on and 5 or 6 meetings later and it snaps again.

Should I put this down to a 1 off or has anyone else had problems with the big belt?

Cat has been run with the undertray on outdoors and only on grass/astro so no little stones could of got in.

I have had the same problem, it is down to dirt getting into your drivetrain

maybe the slipper too tight? Haven't had a belt snap on me yet (kiss of death!)

the slipper is audible during initial acceleration so I wouldn't of thought it was that. out of the few runs I did on the new belt most of those were on polished floor so grip was low.

Very simple, your pulleys are worn and are cutting through the belt, change them as well as the belt and problem solved.

Agreed with Fabs - the only time i've snapped belts, it's because the pullys have worn.

I think I might put new pulleys on anyway just to be on the safe side

you might also want to check the top deck for any cracks.

it's an atomic carbon top deck. looks "as new" and you have to open the hole slightly to get the top deck in the gap.

That might be your problem, the top deck is what keeps the belt at the proper tension. If you opened the holes, the belt could move in a landing or jump. I recomend you go back to the original schumacher top deck.

what I mean is when fitting the top deck I have to flex the chassis to widen the gap that the top deck fits into. sorry it that was vague what I said previous post.

I'll measure both top decks to check the length is the same

measured my AC top deck against my standard one and they are identical in size. When I fitted the last belt it was reasonably tight, but over time it has more and more slack in it.

maybe it's just a 1 off and the new belt I just put on will last ages.
