Default Looking for help B4 shell commission mid feb b'day

I'm trying to get my lad into driving a B4 I got him so thought it would be a good idea to get a new shell ready for his 6th birthday mid Feb.

He's really into Lego Star Wars, and skylanders and wondered if someone would do me a shell ( inc supply of shell )

If you are willing to take the challenge please get in touch.

Cheers.

Somehow I think 6th Feb is too early for most people who paint to a good level. Most have a queue , and that needs to be back before the 6th, so less than 2 week turn around...

Thanks guys I've no idea how long the work takes and thought he'd appreciate it. Matt Coleman has been in touch and seems pretty confident he can do it. I am intrigued enough to be looking at an iwata airbrush to have a bash with to start experimenting.

So the next question is siphon or gravity ?.... Lol

Fair play to him.

Regarding giving it a go yourself, go for it, you might surprise yourself. You don't have to pay mega bucks to just experiment for now. You can pick yourself up a HS30 for £15, and that's all I use...

Gravity is your best bet, but no experience with siphon, so can't possibly comment. I think Julian of Joo's paint uses a siphon, if i'm not mistaken and gets on just fine...

From what I've seen the iwata neo is £50 then the compressor is £99 but only ten minute run cycles, but that said I'm watching a iwata smart jet pro it'll probably go for more than I care to spend but still. Just need to watch some vids on YouTube for process so I can plan it in my head and grab some pop bottles / practise shells.

In the long run if I can make a couple of quid to fund my racing that's all I can ask, just along as it remains fun.

I know Jon sells kits using Peak brushes etc ... I just don't know what to do. I'd like some pc/ mac templates to mock designs up before, am I getting to anal?

Something I've found with airbrushing you can't scrimp on materials.
Or all you will do is end up burning through expensive shells!!

And it's not as easy as it looks either! Don't just expect to pick up a brush and get tip top results. Most of us have been doing it for years, me personally about 8yrs.

And I still make mistakes!

But there is nothing more rewarding than finishing a job and pulling the film off!

Either way good luck!

And yep, Jon Miller is awesome, arguably the best painter in the UK and maybe the world..... no problem Jon

Not anal... just shows enthusiasm for it, for now....

I guess if you are on a budget, then you have to make a compromise. But my advice is to get one of these kits to start you off ;

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Mini-Airbr...item1c2f5ed8c4

I still have one and it gets the job done fine.

The Iwata neo has mixed reviews as it's just a cheap Chinese brush repackaged I think...

You could just get that compressor and one of Jon's peak brush's with paint set etc, think that would do nicely for starters, then see how you go.

I personally think the most important part to this is the actual cutting out of the design, forget lots of fogging and drop shadow's, there useless without good lines.

Just my opinion anyway.

+1 On that....

For me painting is 90% cutting LM & 10% Painting

Even if your pants at airbrushing, and use block colours, Good lines & a well layed out design will make a shell.

I gave Jon a buzz this lunch time for some advice and it appears I've already got half the kit so the starter kit from RCS will do fine. Nice all round chap and nice to see he's not in it for the money so to speak.

I'm not dreaming that I can recreate what you guys are capable of, just want the option to experiment without rattle cans. I've got two shells that I've had for a while I can't bring myself to rattle can them. So Matt is definitely going to get the initial shell's sorted. in the long run I'm going to have a play and see what occurs.

Just hope the results are better than my RC driving

Having a go yourself is great ! Keep it simple though and you won't be disappointed. Just to some simple patterns on the first one with block colours so you get used to cutting the masking and working with both the airbrush and the paint.

Then on the next one try a fade between colours or a shadow or something and you'll soon progress so you can do yours and your son's cars without the need to pay anyone else on here. It's really rewarding looking at your own car and thinking not only did you build it to race but you painted it too.

If you need any help most of us on here are only too happy to jump on and offer advice to try and help you out.

Good luck !

@ Gainsy, cheers sir but yes still got a hell of a queue... Only just seen this and how many days ago was it posted... opps

Oh well.
