hi Derek, thankyou for your reply, i think maybe 2nd hand carpet would be the best/ideal option, just out of interest do you have any links/cost/type as where southport got there astro from?

I would have 3 concerns with astro.
1. The weight of the rolls, when a 3x12m is rolled its bloody heavy !!!!! 2. Would need to be rolled and put away perfectly as any creases wouldn't come out like the carpet does 3. How would we secure the joins, duct tape certainly wouldn't stick it together like the carpet sticks Astro indoors would be unique and a great surface to race on but in my opinion it would only be suitable for a permanent track venue where track was put out and left out, I think carpet is more suited to our needs Just my opinion as one of the same 5 or 6 people who actually build the track week in and week out !!!!!!!!!!!

Maybe we are looking at this the wrong way regarding the carpet, another idea is to run Schumacher venoms as a standard club tyre surely they would last longer..??

make everyone run the same tyre on a club night....something chunky like blocks, this us one of the reasons i dont go very often ( tyre wear) costs to much......use something thats going to last......do like the idea of different surfaces as well

Tires
I think a controlled tire and motor size sounds good .
10.5 in 2WD, tires ? Not sure about 4WD . That means every one would have to buy a 10.5 if you have not got one So the only advantage would be drive ability . That's me f--ked . |

I think only a motor limit would achieve what you are after .... As then any tyres work with low wear rate, and you are able to use the tyres from elsewhere ... Regionals etc.
But I would advise against any restrictions. If you don't want high wear, just use a slower motor .... Like I do with a 13.5 ... The tyres last forever. But just make it a personal choice ... As. Making it a rule discourages people coming to the club. Visiting drivers or new drivers will be put off. It's one reason I never went to tynemet. It would also mean we couldn't try out our cars for prepping for other meetings. Its ideal for me to run 13.5 sv2 most of the time, and then being able to check my kf with 6.5 is working OK. And the lap times are usually identical. There's nothing wrong with the current carpet. It's simple. If you don't want tyre wear. Run a 13.5 . works for me, and trust me .... It's just as quick on lap times.

13.5 for me, however I think people should be allowed to run what they choose, restrictions can put people off. If a 13.5 is as quick over a lap then running a faster motor is no advantage. there is no need to have a motor restriction, run what you like if you can afford the tyre wear,

Couldn't agree more, this was my worry that it would split into two classes diluting the racing between 2 or more classes.
There's nothing wrong with the current carpet
Have to disagree a little here, it is very low grip, if someone has new tyres they is quiet an advantage against worn tyres, higher grip carpet would maybe make the tyres more competitive throughout there life (I don't know that tho ) it's at the point where you could put 2 pairs of new rears on a club night!!! The carpet is also very tatty, a lot of holes patched up with tape, if the club has money is this not something we could think about? Tyres with 13.5 would possibly last even longer |

I think Chris is correct, if you want to use a higher motor that's should be your choice and you accept higher tyre wear, I personally use a 10.5 with a little boost and it's just as quick around the track as a 6.5 and quicker through the turns due to less torque and easier to drive ...... As for the carpet it's as grippy as you want it to be in my opinion, if you want high grip use new tyres or adjust your driving style as the grip gets less due to worn tyres, it's like all kinds of Motorsport if you have funds a plenty available to you and can afford new tyres every night you will have an advantage over someone who runs a slightly tighter budget, I personally feel putting restrictions on what people can and can't run will take the fun away and make the night too strict, where do we go next ????, stop people racing who only has 4wd because they have an advantage over 2wd, I think we have a club that's very relaxed and that everyone enjoys the banter and the competition of chasing the faster more experienced guys
As we all know many clubs find it hard to get the numbers to keep the clubs running successfully and we at seaham are very lucky to have the numbers and new racers joining regularly, let's not scare people away with rules, after all it's a club night not a competition so let's all just have fun and enjoy our hobby But at the end of the day I will follow whatever rules are enforced by the club !!!! 🚗🚗🚗

Benfield has quite new carpet and the tyre wear is twice as bad a seaham, if the grip is low be easy on your thumb and loosen your slipper lol

If we're being all grown up and doing the democracy thing I suppose I will go ????????
^^^ not for grip or the damage it has because it works and does the job perfectly, so this thumbs up is just stop the fluff wrapping my drivertrain up and destroying my wheel bearings lol But either way I'm not fussed lol
