Default B4.1 to X6²

I'm considering a conversion of my B4.1 to an X6² (I have the pre-worlds edition so with the short chassis and the 0.5° rear hubs).

I've noticed the X6² conversion kit is conceived for the old B4 and not the B4.1. What other parts do I need besides the conversion kit ? I'v read somewhere I need the old B4 outdrives Or do I need an entire diff ?

X6 uses a ball diff only. The gear diff from a b4.1 won't fit, I've tried!

I looked into this as I have a B4.1 & wanted to go down the X6^ route.

The diff outdrives & bearings on the B4.1 are metric whereas on the B4 they are imperial therefore you need the old B4 outdrives & bearings to fit the X6 gearbox...

It begs the question why did AE change these to metric & leave the rest imperial & why don't X Factory address this as they currently (I believe) make a conversion for a buggy you can't buy anymore. I know you can buy the outdrives & bearings but it bumps up the price by about £25...

Yep, large diff bearings and outdrives, plus I would suggest using 0 degree hubs too if possible.

The reason X-Factory have not changed is that it would be too big a deal and also make all the older stuff redundant. To fit the "wider" metric B4.1 diff they would need a new gearbox case, new chassis (since the wider gearbox would not fit in the rear cradle section) then that presents problems with the rear geometry etc which just makes it not possible. Although the B4 is no longer made, there are still LOTS in circulation that ould be converted, most peopele who have brought a B4.1 have done so to run it as it is (an AE rear motor car), not many will have brought it to convert straight away, if they were, then they would buy the XFK021 X6 Sq Entire Car instead.

You will also see that the prototype X7 is running the same diffs and the long term plan is that X-Factory will make these diff halves themselves and they will be included in all kits or conversions that will require them.

This way X-Factory owners of an X6 or new X7 when it arrives will only have to carry one type of diff and parts and it will fit their 2wd, as well as front or rear of the 4wd too....

It will but you need more than just a chassis. What x6 kit are you getting?

You need at least the B4 diff outdrives and outdrive bearings.

They are AE B4 items. (Not to be confused with B4.1)

Yes, I know the difference between the B4 and B4.1 outdrives

What I was asking was do X Factory make their own version of the B4 diff outdrives (as they make other similar parts such as front axles, drive shafts, slipper plates etc)

Just did a quick search on the DMS website couldn't find any listed

All X Factory cars use the AE ball diff with AE #7667 & 7668 outdrives and XF #6203 bearings.

We do plan to make the outdrives ourselves, probably about the time we release the X - 7 or shortly after that. Darren is, as usual, correct on all counts.
