Just wondered how many ooplers run one of these and whether they'd find a source for setups/tips etc useful (both to get info from but also to input into), I'm running one this year but not sure if many others are outside the US!!

You'd thought the Hobby Company would support cars like this but they are more interested in the toys section.

Makes wonder how ppl cope with the TRF511 & when the new 2wd car comes onto the market. As i cant see them supporting this either.

I was looking at one of these cars not long back very nice bit of kit but the support is turn off straight away. I guess this is the reason why you wont fnd many ppl running the car I'm afraid

It is a shame tho with 10th stuff the HK/Japan shops are cheap and have good service! Unfortunately the 801 is a TamiyaUSA car so not all parts are available through Tamiya Japan. It's chicken and egg though, if more people ran it somewhere would bring parts in, but people reasonably don't want to run it until parts are easy to get!?

There's always Amain though, got an order from them to pick up tonight!!

just wondered if anyone is running one as if so I can post up some tips/setups etc and also get other people to do so!?

I've picked one up second hand to try this year, first runs this weekend at our local club so we'll see what happens. Any source of advice for set ups etc.. would be a bonus as all i've got to work on are the US setup sheets.
Was chatting with Andy Griff tonite at our local club and he mentioned the front shock towers being a bit of a weak point, is there an after market hop-up for these?

Good question, not sure if they are generally weak but I did bend one at Neo. If your runing stock bits then I think its mroe liekly you'll bend the screws that the top of the shock mount to than the tower itself, I run the new hardened screws and I think that may lead to more strain on the tower....can send you part numbers for those hardened screws if you want?

The tower is 3.5mm where the shock screw goes in, I know someone who's willing to look at making a carbon one but just not sure 3.5mm is thick enough carbon??

Welcome to the car by the way, what series/races are you loking to run!

Oh, and don't let Griff convince you to run yellow wheels

Hahaha, nice one amish. Atomic got carbon ones made for by losi 8 a while back and they were super strong. Try Jc, he might get you some thick ones done?
I might pop along the weekend to see how she goes Tim

He's got nothing better to do with his time! I've managed to resist his brain washing techniques so far on the yellow wheels but he is persistent.......

Part no's for the hardened screws would be appreciated cheers, the car is stock, although it does have the lightened chassis. We'll see how it goes at the weekend.

We've taken part in the nitrocross series for the last couple of years but are looking at some new events/venues this year. First event in anger will be swindon next weekend.

I have both the buggy and truggy, and am racing as many nationals I can get away with this year. Mostly truggy, but getting more into buggy with every meeting.
It is a really good car, extremely fast and stable. Setups are a bit weird, but I am trying to attempt different ones based on US sheets and modifying what looks odd.
I too have bent a front shock tower, but it was a full speed crash into a fence (wasn't me driving it!!!)

Hopefully this thread can be somewhere we can all share info and get more people interested!

Cheers for the part number Dave. The only place i've been able to find them is speedtechrc and they're out of stock at the moment. Is there anywhere i've missed or are they the only guys stocking them?

Both Amain and Speedtech will order parts direct from TamiyaUSA if they are not in stock.
I would send them an email and ask how long it would take etc.

Yep, Speedtech have always been happy to order from Tamiya for me, not tried Amain for out of stock items!

Usually it only takes a couple of days for them to get them in, current one slightly slower but then I did tell them no rush this time!

So what diff/shock setups are you running in your?

I was running 5-5-2 but the diffs were unloading too much on astro. So I went radical and changed to 15-5-10 and really liked it on dirt (was OK on astro, but could have been improved). However it was lacking a bit of off power turn in so I am now trying 10-5-7 and next weekend will be the first time I will be running it.

Just some tips, for the shocks, use Losi 8 bladders as the Tamiya ones are too small and do not actually seal the shock, meaning the oil escapes. Also, instead of getting the Tamiya spring set, the Losi springs fit both front and rear, which is easier to tune to your liking.

Nice one, hopefully Tim can stick a setup on here!

I had a mare today, only one run and didn't finish that, already back home
