Default Rebound Valves...a must or?

Got a secondhand X10, and rebuilt the shocks. When I noticed the front shocks didn´t have the rebound valve. Are they a "must-have"?

Going to drive on fairly bumpy dirt-tracks.

Otherwise I liked the construction of the shocks, very easy to rebuild and maintain(sp?).

One thing I noticed was the frontshocks had different angles towards the centershaft. Need to recharge the camerabattery, then I post a picture.

You dont necessaryarly need them in the shocks, Jim Dixon said on the www.the-pred.co.uk forum that they make the car more consistant using them.

Also with youre car being on bumpy tracks the idea of a shock re-bound valve is to let oil through slower upon impact then relase the oil faster back the other way i beleive studying them on a site, so maybe on a bumpy track maybe not using them if they maybe cause maybe a tiny bit more pack making the suspension slightly stiffer upon quick pounding on bumps on hard rutted areas may make the car "Loose" or make the front end rise more, Not using them could be worth a try first off then see how you get on. If you dont like it just pop them in and try it see how you go

I asked about this a good month or so ago if they was needed and i got some helpful comments back on this thread:

Thanks for the link, going to try it on a offroadtrack. Only tried it on the asphalt outside the house, only bump there is a speedbump

Good to know, its not a vital part of the shock.

Here´s some pictures about the angle.
The blurry picture, is almost straight above.

Better picture, but not 100% vertically over plane.

Almost as one of the shocks is more compressed than the other one.
But it still happens, if I switch the places.

this could be the rocker pivot which is tightened up and is a diffrent angle to the other
i would be looking at either a new gear box top or id go for the new x11 upgraid part

Push rod doesnt look equal at both sides, Thats why one is slightly compresed towords the other. In effect its giving more droop one side more than the other.

what are they set at mesurement wise ?

Yes you can see the rockers are not sitting in the same position, are the shock lengths the same etc, and as garry says, the push rods.

Also chaps, whats the idea of the O rings on the prop shaft

You have something that is limiting droop on the left side. If you take shocks off, problem will still be there. I have seen pushrods hitting wishbone causing this.

The O-rings are used to limit the brakes sent to the front of the car

1 orings - 33%

2 orings - 66%

3 orings - 99%

simple way of explaining it

nah theres a cuplet on the shaft and a one-way bearing. More pressure with the o-rings on it creates more friction incredibly creating more brakes sent to the front of the car, fairly simple yet very effective.

LOL tighty whities ? LOL doubt they would work LOL.

These are only on the X10 / XRS cars mate. Not on the X11 im afraid as the X11 has a perminent 4wd only until we have the one-way diff sorted out ( fingers crossed soon ). I would imagine the X10/XRS shaft would fit but not sure for definate.

Yea i cant see why you couldnt run no o rings on the shaft.

This is actually my old car, the layshaft oneway will fit directly into the x11 in fact the lack of a layshaft oneway is for me a backward step with the x11.

when i say directly you will need to use an x11 or earlier drive shaft also!!

If you have a look through the old threads on the-pred you will see how i fitted (Wayne78) an hpi pro4 one way, which requires longer drive cups, although now the D4 one way is available you could just drop that in instead.

Mologarain, check that the pushrods are the same length, as i used turnbuckles instead of the fixed length pushrods take them off and lay them side by side.
The rockers are square you don't need a new gear box top, also check your shocks are both the same length, any probs send a pm.

You just leave them on the shaft and roll them on or off for taste, i often ran with none on the adjuster but always left them on the drive shaft as otherwise you have to take the damn thing out to put them back on.

Matt White and Cooper told me on MSN last night about the pro4 diff fitting as the pinion gear was the same DP so it would fit. But the D4 one would be cool too. With the Xtreme one-way not too far off i think ill hang on for the time being .

I have checked the pushrods, they´re the same length.
Funny is that when I removed them, the drop is still 2mm difference.

Removed the lower and upper wishbones, and compared them, no difference here either. I noticed about the shocks, that one spring doesn´t have the power to push out fully. But Im going to change them to black, as the manual advice for dirt track.

But still, no pushrods or turnbuckles attached, and still a difference in drop.
Like Pro4nut said, the gearbox looks good.
