Default Cougar Convert

So I decided trade the X Fatory and not to wait for the 22 or at least give the ol Cougar a try and picked up a 2011 spec. Any pointers from the pros? We run a tight course on high traction carpet with a couple fair sized jumps.
Thanks

You've gone for the best car....full stop!
What do you need to know!???

Run stiffer oils to reduce grip and grip roll
Outer on towers will also calm it down also
Try the 50.5mm front link with 2mm to start with depends on how much steering your looking for.
Rear anti roll bar helps to give you a bit of hand brake effect!

Currently on rubberised floor I'm running the below but you may want to go 5w higher on oils on high grip carpet!

Front
40w Losi
4hole ghea
4.5 medium springs
2mm limiters in front shocks

Rear
32.5 Losi
6hole ghea
2.5 long springs
Rear shock ends unscrewed about two threads

Gearing wise
I run a 8.5t Nosram octa indoors which is quicker than most speed passion 6.5t motors!
78/22-23 that will loose you alot of bottom end but on carpet you won't need to worry about that so anything upto the kit 83 would be fine on around 23 again dependent on motor.

Long chassis would be nice for you to calm car down even more but is not necessary you will be v happy I'm sure with the standard one!

Try 3 degree rear toe in block first and if you need more rear end try 4mm

Schumacher yellow mini pins all round go for slim wheels on front Schumacher do a pre glued pair on there site!

Thanks alot for the info! I will def keep it handy for my build next week! I was looking into the longer chassis since I was just gonna do it during the build since I prefer a consistent car, but the hobby dealer talked me out of it. Maybe ill order it anyway.

Any upgrades I should buy? I cant seem to find much for this car.

Oh yeah should I run a stick pack or saddle. I have both.

re the gear box, what is the issue? Does it deform or loose alignment over time? Seemed buttery smooth when i was done with my tranny.

There is nothing wrong with the stock gearbox....but I love the aluminium gearbox. Adds a little rear weight and alignes the gears a little better than the plastic tranny

Just passing on my experience, had one go in my car and seen several go at the club, cougars are great cars i wont deny that, i just felt let down by the quality of some of the parts in a "top end" kit when i had mine..

Hence why i swapped it for a CR2...

it seems that that gear box probably required alot of R&D attention, a very complex mold to pull of to be able to give adjustable diff height along with all those gears.. I have only had one run on my car and it seems very solid... Cross my fingers that it holds up.. The car was a dream to drive... I was wondering how 7 gears would get me up to speed! LOL but it did the job.

to be fair the gear box was never really that big a problem more external gears which was down to material rather than design, and now not a issue,

Apparently the '2011 spec' has also addressed this with the steel sided gears, layshaft and the Purple turnbuckles which are stronger. So it seems Schumy is making he effort.

Thanks. Yeah the guys at our track had pretty good luck with kit setup so that seems to be a starting set up for now anyway. I just cant believe they looked that good on carpet out of the box.

i was running at a carpet track last night and went 2 the standard hubs rather than the +5's and felt it made the steering and going into the corner alot safer just a suggestion u could keep 2 mined if u have too much steering

Silly question, but when you order one off web, how do you know its a 2011 spec and not a 2010 that been hanging about a bit?

Plus I would expect that most shops will "advertise" the fact that there stock is now the new 2011 spec too, as we have done. If they dont put 2011 spec, it is highly likely they are not.....
