Question Turbo Optima Mid Special!

Hi guys,

Well after selling some cars and unfinished projects I decided to bite the bullet and treated myself to what you see below, it is NIB apparently.....

I had one when I was younger and converted my Turbo mid to LWB. I also just bought some NIP yellow wheels as per Turbo Mid Special kit and a Marwan shell/tray/wing & decal set.

Now, the dilemma is - do I convert my shelf queen Turbo Optima Mid (I sold one a few weeks back which would have been perfect for this conversion damn it) or do I keep the Turbo Mid shelfer and try and make a Turbo Mid Special from the parts I have.....decisions, decisions! I think all I need are the adjustable turnbuckles and a few small bits and pieces in order to make one from bits.

One more thing, the wing side pod decals on the conversion kit finished pics look different to the actual kit pic? As if they have used the Turbo mid SE black cloud decals on the sides?

Dan

Is this the one that was just on eBay but the seller would not post outside the US?

Dan, if it were me, I'd build it from scratch using other parts rather than sacrificing your Turbo Mid for it. It might take a bit longer but in the end you'll have two nice cars instead of only one and a bunch of parts left over.

May sanity prevail.

Cheers Keith yes this is what I've decided to do.

It's going to be a bit of a project car with full custom Carbon Fibre chassis/upper deck/motor plate/rear plate/shock towers and wing stay!

Once the bits arrive I'll put pics of the build on here

Thanks,

Dan

This sounds pretty similar to what I have planned for my SWB mid build. I have all the Varbon Fibre bits here for it and 99% of the other parts. I just need to finish the SP andbdecide which of my three and a half planned builds I start next.

That's what I thought! He just says that the shocks and wheels aren't original. Why would you remove the gold shocks off such a sought after car, and replace with those plastic (albeit decent shocks actually) ones? And isn't the Turbo Special chassis carbon fibre?

Hi guys it arrived today

The chassis looks graphite and not woven as I remember my conversion was back in the day?

Perhaps due to it being the rare 7 cell version....

Yes, Kyosho made two versions of the conversion kit. You have kit #2. The 7-cell version which was made in a different material than the first version you remember from before.

Very nice find!! I'm not jealous at all

Is the 7 cell version the same material or actually the same chassis as the OT-128 graphite (or was it frp) chassis for the Custom Special?

Indeed it was a nice find, in the time I was watching the ad and asking the seller if he would ship international it subsequently was sold lol
