SX spur gear moving away from pinion under acceleration?
Took my SX out for its first run today (yeah, I know... procrastination is my middle name ) and I ended up stripping the spur.
When I picked up the car and spun up the motor I could see the spur visibly moving away from the pinion! It's fine when I slow down again, so I'm thinking there are more than 3 screws I need to tighten to fix the mesh. I can see two underneath the rear bulkhead with the round heads, and the one behind the idler gears. There's one underneath the motor that I can reach through the slot in the chassis, though I gather that's just the motor clamp. They're all tight, so what's left? I haven't got a manual, so any suggestions before I go download one and find out the obvious for myself? The car isn't brand new - I bought it off ebay and from what I can gather, it's only been run once or twice. Nowhere near enough to have bent a layshaft or anything... I hope! |

Sounds like the slipper may have been a little loose, leading to overheating of the spur and thus melting the centre. Concentricity is then lost. I'd take the spur off and have a look.

The new black spur gears that Schumacher are now supplying should stop this from happening..

Ok, I took the spur off and as suggested, the hole is melted. Layshaft doesn't look bent. The slipper was quite tight but I guess there's a lot of torque in those motors...
Where do I get the new black spurs? I can't see them on the Schumacher site. Have they filtered through to retailers yet? |

I Just ordered the spur wanted from Schumacher, the new stock are the black spurs, I had some delivered last week. But it wouldn't hurt to ask for a new black spur. But I am still using the old spur with no problem! |

Black spur is running change as it was with Mi4LP and now with front reinforced wishbones for Cat

You can bend a layshaft just from over tighting the slipper spring
Found out the hardway

Got my new black spur gear on (finally!) - was just putting the idler gear cover back on and I noticed that there's a black rubber cover that covers....well nothing. It's the bit that the slipper adjust nut fits inside of, but there's no way of accessing the nut if the cover is fitted as it's sealed. Am I supposed to cut the end of this or something?
