Me too. I found the email and replied with what would have been a very similar message to yours. Are the rears even useable the way they are?

If i file away half the pivot block sections on the wishbones then and chassis then yes, but both are at leat one mm further inwards so cant really use. However its a quality product, pity the hole placements wrong and the rear section isnt an exact copy of the original so you cant turn it upside down.

I have heard back and he is sending me replacements too
If they don't work I guess at least I can still use the fronts, not sure what I will do for the rear then, maybe carbon ones?

Do the ZX-5 ball diffs take the same size diff balls as the ZX-R ball diffs?
I want to buy some ceramic diff balls from RCLazy but can't figure out which size I need to order

i think you shouldnt bother with ball diffs anymore. use the gear diffs, and fill them with really heavy diff oil like #200000. Fill them full for the front, and fill half for the rear. with such thick oil it wont ooze out from the sides.

Mmmm I would advise differently. Stay with ball diffs and contact RC lazy for ceramic balls for thrust and diff. That will be far better. Also the gear diff drive cups wear out rather quickly and unless you can get these made out of a much stronger material then I would go for the ball diff.

Alcyon, I will sometime this year and as you know I am slow so cannot guarantee when but I am asking a favour from a friend to make me a mold of a new diff casing, and this will be to make it enclosed and sealable so we can use the durango diff oil. I have a design in my head and aim to at least test this by the end of the year if possible. If I can get it right then maybe we wont need to worry about sourcing Kyosho vintage bits for the diffs.

Well you should be able to buy the very rear (I am modding my design again fractionally) and the very front one (Im also modding it again) but the inner two are the issues and will costs a lot of wanted out of CF.

Lol, theres a shop here selling a whole stack of the diff cups i think about 7 pairs. anyway the new style gear diffs are a good idea. there is a plastic moulding company i know off but i am afraid the cost could be prohibitive if the volume isnt great enough. If the cost could be about U$D35 retail, and of course could make a profit out of each then its ok.
A standard spec-R touring car gear diff costs about that much.

I believe once the mold is done correctly the cost will be cheap for the casing, but unsure on the cost of the internals that will be needed, however its going to based on a product thats already in production so should be a one off payment and the gears will last some time.

Welshy, have you considered getting plastic parts like diff casings 3D printed instead of having to get molds made up? There's a few places that could do it, I'm getting some non RC related stuff done at Shapeways at the moment, could be well worth considering.

Not sure wich one to use for the Lazer ZX......
Would 42mm not to long for the lazer? Maybe it's better to use W5096V= 38MM??
What do you think?

OK never thought of that. I have had a chat with my friend Matt and he has advised that he believes that plastics is not the answer. Like Oosh123 he is thinking outside the box and believes alloy is the way forward as you can seal it properly and no leakage either. The casings in the Durango as an example will leak always as plastics can not always be guaranteed to keep its perfect shape under centrifugal forces. Ball diffs do as its a solid block of plastic and the rest is alloy so no chance of flex but as you know diff casings are thin plastics and under force will flex especially when rotating at high velocity.

Sorry, I was thinking of gearbox casings, not just them but any plastic parts on the car. Apparently they can print different types of plastics including nylon and metals too.

Ok sounds very interesting. We have a gearbox design for the front already with CF side plates and an alloy top but what if we could get the top made from a clear plastic, that would look ace. also some plastic blocks are needs as well. What company does this?

Shapeways, http://www.shapeways.com/

If you're not experienced with 3D modelling just sign up and you can talk to someone who can do the 3D design for you in the "3D modeller needed" section on the forums.

I'm not 100% certain but I think they can do clear plastic.
