Default xcelorin 6.5 getting hot

Just put my xcelorin 6.5 combo in my cat sx lipo running kit spur 22 pinion
lasted around 3 mins before stopping motor was getting very hot.
changed to 24 pinion lasted nearly 5 mins but still comming off very hot.
is this not the norm on a cat kit spur 22 pinion on a 6.5
still running version 1.0 software.
normal timing
30% brake
12% drag brake

was running no throttle limit but went down to 80% but still didn't last 5 min

I ran my 6.5 in my xx4 for one run, then another instantly the race after and it was only just hot, this was indoors too. I'd say it's a gearing/tranny tightness issue.

Thanks lads but 23/24 pinion seems to be the right gearing on kit spur.
Was in brand new pb cat sx drive train is free etc,
Very free no binding what so ever????

Gutted was fingers crossed hopefully going to be a cheap combo compared to the rest the motor is very quick on lipo just wish it would run without the speedo cutting out as it gets to hot.
I was told to go up 2 pinions from a 22 to a 24 it lasted a bit longer but surely the motor doesn't need gearing up more

Someone must run a xcelorin in a cat sx
i like the system but if it wont work
could it be faulty combo

A few of the lads were running 6.5 and 23 pinion kit spur and running perfect??

Is the losi different. its got my head dun in.
anyway its going in my x6^ as ive just bought a lrp sphere tc and a 5.5 L
i hope the losi works in that anyone know what pinion on a 78 spur

Have you read the manual and adjusted to lipo, also if you have 2.4ghz have you adjusted for that also?
Have you installed the cd on your PC and checked the ESC out for its current settings and adjusted them?
I know you have done it Ha Ha, never had that trouble with my 501X after I changed the shell to Yokomo shell giving more air circulation though.
The original shell made it thermal out sometimes especially indoors.

if it lasted longer on a bigger pinion that sounds like it is undergeared. Did you know brushless systems can overheat if undergeared. Try a 26t pinion and see how it goes. Seems well undergeared because on a 72t spur i run a 30t pinion and thats on a 13.5t motor !

Try lowering the motor timing. That might help with the heat.
I've run the xcelorin setup in my cat before and although it got
hot it never cut out due to heat. (4.5 motor /20 tooth pinion)
Use version 2 software and make sure you update to the
latest firmware on the speedo.
