Default Best all round YZ2

I have recently got a second hand original YZ2 with a few upgrades, including an unused 3 gear box.
I'm just wondering what you opinions would be the best all round YZ2 for astro tracks, wet and dry I will only be using one car and don't usually get time to swap gearboxes, diffs etc.

3 or 4 gear, gear or ball diff, shocks front or rear.

Thanks,

Kit set up is pretty good in my mind. I'm sure the really fast guys can tweak more out of it with specialist set ups, but out of the box, as per kit I have found it to be brilliant. I've run on everything from slippery wood to high grip carpet and other than changing tyres, I've not really thought "ooh I wish it would do XYZ"

Yokomo YZ-2

No 4WD because nothing lives up to my original Optima. Until now maybe?...

My YZ2 is the original 4 gear laydown transmission which I use for dry or high traction conditions with the shocks on the front and a gear diff.
I actually have a complete second gearbox (bought used off of here) with a ball diff installed and shock tower stand offs on the rear. I use this for wet or low grip conditions. I just have to remove the shocks, undo 6 screws from underneath, 2 from the top and the 2 motor screws and swap gearboxes. I also swap to the 3.5 degree toe in for low grip.
If I only had the choice of 1 gearbox for this car, the 4 gear laydown would be what Id use. 4 gear gives more weight transfer (most usefull in the wet) and is therefore the best compromise. The goldilocks situation would be 4 gear upright (Y-Max) and rear shocks for low grip and 3 gear laydown and front shocks for high grip.

Having tried the 4 gear and 3 the gear back to back over a couple of meetings (same set up, electrics everything) I personally prefer the 4 gear! The 3 gear seems to jump a little better but I just like the way the 4 gear car drove... Try both, there's isn't all that much in it!

for all round use? No doubt the original 4 gear!
I even prefer it over the 3 gear(CA edition) for high grip astro as well...
