xx-4 Outdrives
Hey all,
I was just wondering, Without the outdrive saver things, Has anyone broken the outdrives themselfs? I busted yet another on sunday, and i was wondering it it was time to get some outdrive savers. I was completely ragging the nuts of my xx-4, But I wasn't expecting that, Anyone know if they are a weak spot or? Cheers, Lew

yeah its a weak spot especially on high grip surfaces, hence why outdrive savers are pretty much essential. you'll do well to find new ones as i think most are discontinued.

The outdrives were fine when the xx4 came out with 2000 cells & 12x2 motors but with the advances in power that we have now you need to run saver rings or just out a steal diff in the back.

Firstly, hello all. New member so please be gentle!!
I am posting here as I might be able to offer a solution to your weak outdrives. I have a CEN Fun Factor which has the same problem. I have lost count of the number of times they have gone on me. The solution was to go to B&Q or any plumbing outlet and look for something called 'compression fittings' or they are also called 'olives'. These are small brass rings that come in various diameters and double very nicely as an outdrive sleeve. I have yet to break an outdrive since fitting them. They are about £1 for eight so they are at least worth a try!! Anyway, hope this helps. |
