Thursday January 10th 2013

We had been approached by Ulrich some months before the 2013 DHI cup, and he'd asked us to attend and report from this race. Having not visited Denmark for many years and knowing of it's notority for pastry, bacon, and LEGO, we were unable to refuse.

Traditionally the DHI cup has focussed on catering for drivers of the touring car / on-road classes, however last year has opened its doors to 2wd and 4wd buggy. This event marks the DHI's 11th year running and the entry figures show no lack of popularity. Touring cars are run in two categories - the beginners group which uses stock motors wheras the lite-advanced group run modified motors.

As Tommy pointed out - the advanced group run off-road on the other track ;)

Our flight from the far northern aeroport of Manchestershire landed in the world capital of Copenhagen on Thursday evening - an hour and a half away from our destination. Fortunately Danish warrior Tommy Vinge Hensen stepped in to save the day by collecting us, along with southerners Tom Cockerill and Lloyd Storey, and delivered us to the track.

When we arrived trackside Dave Church was already installed and had commenced his reporting for online magazine rc-tuner - DC was also here on professional duties, and would be spicing the races up with his commentating throughout the event. The track build was nearly complete, with a few dedicated guys putting together the final touches.

Easyjet lull you with super-cheap drinks so you will pay double to exit the juices in the toilets.

Without the support of Ulrich and the race sponsors LRP, Serpent and EuroRC in helping us out with accommodation, and Schumacher for helping us with travel expenses, it would not have been possible for us to attend this race - so huge thanks to them for their help.

Friday January 11th 2013 - Practice

Early morning booking in.

The tracks opened up at 7am to allow drivers time to set up in the pits and prepare their gear prior to practice commencing at 8am. The order of the day would be 4 rounds of practice run in heat order, of which the last two rounds would be used to determine the start order in qualifying heats using the regular method of fastest three consecutive laps.

During practice both the touring car and off-road tracks were running at the same time, however for qualifying this would change to make things much easier to follow.

Both the buggies and touring cars would have four rounds of controlled practice - with the buggies getting some extra practice whilst the more populated touring car class finished their fourth and final round.

DHI CUP - Danish Hobby Imports, a now extinct company but the name of this long-standing event remains.

The 4WD Buggies and Stock Touring would each have two qualifying runs on Friday - and Modified Touring would have just one qualifier before it was time to pack up for the night.

The setting for DHI cup is this spacious arena at the Odense Congress Centre, with more than enough room to accommodate two tracks, an impressive rostrum, comfortable pitting area, and a massive seating area for the audience. Speakers transmit the sound of DC's commentating throughout the entire building (including the ladies toilets) and music is played in the background. Live results are projected onto huge screens in all four corners of the audiatorium. Despite the arctic conditions outdoors, the huge hall is heated sufficiently for us to not be too concerned about forgetting to bring coats with us.

DRIFTERZ
As you enter the race arena - to the right is a small track laid out for what I'd imagined was some of that 'Mini-Z' bullshit - but no, it's actually set aside for these hardcore street drifters.

We met up with a couple of the guys that were here early to get set up - known on the street as ZERXXX and FREEWHACK, the guys were listening to hardcore rap music when we turned up and couldn't help themselves from putting out the signs of the gangs that they belong to. Tattoo'd up across the back of their necks with cars going sideways - these guys don't just do it, they live it - and ARE it.

CAR PORN - I want that Escort so I can be a hardcore drift gangster riding sideways 4lyf - none of this running on rails touring car stuff for me. Sideways for the win.

After two rounds of practice were completed drivers were called over to the grandstand to listen to DC's drivers briefing and various safety announcements.

Drivers were warned that motor spray must not be left out on the table due to fire risk - well, not really the risk of fire but the risk of the fire marshall seeing the spray and deciding it was dangerous, and that lipo's must be charged in special sac's - anyone breaching these rules would be disqualified from the event and kicked in the nuts - and fire officers would be patrolling to ensure compliance.

The drivers gather for drivers briefing - of course, we get them to all wave their arms like nutters.

From practice round three the fastest times would now be used to seed the start order of qualifying - but the heats would still feature the same drivers, so not a complete reshuffle.

OOOOOF - THIS IS RACING! THIS!!!!

Jimmy with Mikal - kind donor of his used dungarees.

The touring cars just sorta went round and round - but the hardcore badboys in the corner were more interesting

Qualifying rd 1.
4wd offroad qualifying was the only real off road action of the day and as expected Jörn got off to a good start. Some mistakes saw Martin Bayer take it up with his Xray XB4 - but mistakes from Martin didn't help him as Jörn came back quickly to take the lead and win convincingly.

I'm not so sure what these touring cars are - there's not so many name decals (come see me, I'll sort ya out) and the paint schemes are nothing I've seen before! Maybe Ronald Volker I can figure out, otherwise it's a lottery! Perhaps tomorrow I will ask a touring guy to help me name some of these cars! :)

This car is a Serpent - I know this because it has the logo I designed on the side!

Jurgen from LRP and Ronald Volker discuss the serial number sticker issue, and how to stop them falling off

Qualifying Rd 2
The second round of 4WD buggy qualifying saw Tom Cockerill take up the lead with a new trick up his very short sleeve - jumping from the small jump to the right of the rostrum, all the way onto the top of the tabletop. This was a much faster way and Tom quickly took the lead over Jörn. Sensing something was wrong - Jörn saw Tom's new lines in the corner of his eye and was quick to start jumping the same way - much to the upset of Tom who wished to keep things secret :)

Speaking to Jörn afterwards, he said he'd tried this jump in practice but decided it was too risky to do everytime - but with Tom busting out this move Jörn also had to go for it.

AWESOMATIX
There's only one really 'different' touring car out there it seems - the shaft driven Awesomatix. I saw some prototype pictures of this car a while back and whilst I'm not so interested in racing a touring car I was impressed with what I saw and thought it'll probably never make production. I was wrong of course, and so I went to take a look at the cars - of which there are quite a few running here at the DHI Cup.

This thing is like nothing else, ever. In fact, it's AWESOME.

Some of the guys say the Awesomatix is the best for the stock class since it has a better transmission - but this is one heck of an amazing piece of engineering, with an almost unreal attention to detail and never-before-seen features!

Now the testing is done on the flat - this chap needs to make a buggy!

BK Bones! - that's a shock absorber down there

I want to make love to this car.

This car has the moulded gearbox covers in place.

We'll find out some hopefully interesting business about this class to bring to you later in the report.

Saturday January 12th 2013

Saturday started slowly - with drivers gradually turning up from 7am onwards. The first cars on the track were the 4WD buggies racing their third qualifier before the Stock touring cars took their turn at their penultimate qualifier. The modified touring guys would be on after all these had taken place - so were a little slow to turn up. Still - they had to get here in time to JUICE their tyres up and pretend to make changes to their car.

Xray XB4
Team Xray are here at the DHI in force - at least in the on-road class. Martin Bayer is here racing the XB4 along with Jurai Hudy, the owner of Xray himself. Xray got some feedback on their recently released 4WD buggy with a few reports of broken differential gears and cracked shock towers / front bulkheads.

Unlike most companies - Xray produce everything in-house so they can make changes very quickly. We spoke to Martin and Jurai Hudy about the new parts which have been released free to all XB4 owners to address some of the early issues with the first batch of kits.

To reinforce the towers Xray have produced some spring steel 1mm thick braces to reinforce key areas - these simply bolt over the existing towers without any fitment issues.

The new front bulkhead

Thin 1mm spring steel reinforcers

New differential crown gears are another improved part included with the update and all future kits. The crown gear itself has never been a problem but some drivers have broken internal differential gears. To stop this issue the new crown gears have a shallower inset for the washer - this pushes all the internal gears a little closer together to take away any excess play which could cause the gears to slip in extreme conditions.

The last improvement is the new front bulkhead which has more material around the shock tower mounts. The upgrade kit comes with a manual which can also be downloaded from the Xray website since the new bulkhead isn't a straight fit onto the car. The topdeck needs a slight adjustment to allow room for the reinforced area of the bulkhead/gearbox casing.

Top off road superhero Martin Bayer wasn't running any of the new parts on his XB4 and took the TQ in round three of qualifying. He says this is because he's not had time but we managed to get him to admit he is actually too lazy to fit the new parts and never broke anything on the car yet so he's not too concerned.

Jurai Hudy had all the new parts on his car - we think this is because he crashes a lot more than Martin

The Xray guys say these new parts are to help more toward lower level drivers who obviously might crash more (a lot more for me) and with the correct slipper setting there's not been any stripped differential gears.

The free upgrade kit also comes with spare internal gears - unchanged from the originals but provided free to all drivers in case they already had damaged them before recieving the new crown gears.

I popped the question that's always on my mind - "will you make a one way", at which point Jurai looked at me like I was something upon the underneath of his shoes and couldn't fathom the idea of using a one way in off road. Within the spring-steel exterior of Jurai, a silent chuckle arose that only angels could hear - ONE WAY!

The conversation in my head:
I tell you what Jurai - you come to a Batley club meeting - just me and you head to head, and I'll show you what a one way is all about. As you push wide I will be inside on every corner barely in control of my car, but hanging on for all I have. Yes, you will out-brake me on carpet, but I will always be inside - forever.

With Team Durango announcing their own touring car - we couldn't help notice Joern and his dad taking a keen interest in the whole flat-track scene. Hmmmm - what next? Micro racing? Tractor pulling? Crawling?

Martin Bayer took the third round of qualifying as Neumann drove hard to try and make up for early mistakes - but he missed out by half a second from Bayer. Martin Hansen came in third with Tom Cockerill falling off the radar in this one.

By this point we were definitely confused. Friday had seen practice for all classes, and a combination of 4wd off-road, super stock on-road and modified on-road qualifying. Saturdays schedule ensured that 4wd off-road qualifying was completed prior to the start of 2wd off-road.

The two off-road classes are the least populated groups in this traditionally on-road event, this may also have been slightly affected by the Petit race in Norway falling on the same weekend, however with a full complement of on-road drivers there is more than enough happening. Any more drivers and it would have been another one of those '2 hours sleep per night' events. Now we just had to engage the on-road drivers in some of our oOple madness to raise the profile of their chosen class and try to make it more exciting for them.

With the 4wd qualifying completed, Saturday afternoon saw the start of qualifying in 2wd off-road whilst the modified and super stock on-road classes continued their qualifying rounds. Having already wrapped up TQ in 4wd, Jorn got to work in 2wd, and walked away with round 1 nearly 10 seconds ahead of local lad Kim Nielsen. UK rep's Lloyd Storey and Tom Cockerill arrived bright eyed and bushy tailed after a well rested night and took 4th and 5th in round respectively.

Alexander Hagberg from Sweden is one of XRays top drivers - he keeps all his thoughts in a secret black book, which despite being inspired by Tommy Thunderdome he would not let us see the magic within. Tommy suspects it contains detailed drawings of a new Volvo.

Alexander was late to this meeting because he likes to travel by moose and this is not allowed on the bridge from Sweden to Denmark - the moose swims but it's slow and the current was unseasonably strong.
When asked about his favourite traditional homeland dish Alexander told us he just can't resist a McDonalds Big Mac, but IKEA's Swedish Meatballs come in a close second place.

Adrian Berntsen is team fisters latest sign-up, and alongside team mate Alexander Hagberg, this marks the brands breakthrough into flat-track-racing. They are hoping to see new lines added to Fisters increasingly vast range of r/c goodies, with requests ranging from tyre additive to anti-roll bars.
Adrian doesn't store his deepest darkest thoughts in a book, he says that his father is responsible for storing any and all ideas he has. When offered vinegar to drink Adrian thought we were slightly strange (?) because he has only seen it used in cleaning before - he declined a taste of the sweet pickly goodness but took a sniff and we think he was quite impressed. Better keep that shiz hidden away. Adrian has been racing r/c cars for about 6 years now but hasn't yet ventured further than the on-road classes - understandably so as he's at the top of the field in this group.

Adrian before we got to him, oOple-naive

Now he is crazy warrior - AND TQ

PROKEN S1

Young off road driver Pelle Culmsee came over a few times to see what the oOple process is all about. Pelle mentioned his broken car several times and I was wondering why - does he want me to fix it or something? What's going on!

It turned out that it was a new 2WD car - and I expected something like a toy but was surprised to see a rather sweet looking buggy - the PROKEN S1 from PR Racing. The car was being raced by both Pelle and his father Tim - who runs a hobby shop in Denmark called TC Hobby.

Tim informed us the buggy is brand new and so hasn't really been seen much yet - but has a list of features that put it among the latest 2WD buggies from other manufacturers. Both drivers were of course running mid-motor configurations but Tim mentioned that the car comes with a rear-motor gearbox also, so can be run in either configuration.

Tim and his son Pelle with their Proken S1's

Pelle's car wasn't 'broken' at all - it was PROKEN! - Probably not the wisest choice of names for a car, but hey.

All-alloy BIG BORES

The 4-gear mid motor gearbox

Alloy chassis plate combines with moulded side pods

The rear shot - some seriously nice action

The new buggy looks like a great car - you can check it out at the companies website pr-rc.com

ESESSS from Denmark currently drives Kyosho products, but Tom Cockerill wanted to explain to him why he should run Schumacher. Well the results are self explanatory as Tom rode his Schumacher SV2 to the top of round 3.

Jörg Miikael Tiit
15yr old Jörg is from Estonia and due to his hay-bale style hair we got talking to him - you can't ignore this hair!

There's not so much racing in Estonia - and no on-road racing. Jörg races for Serpent in 8th buggy and touring car. Because it's not so far from home, Jörg spends a lot of time racing in Finland at the moment - though his dream is to live somewhere a little warmer than Estonia such as Netherlands.

Jörg's ambition is to be making the A final at events like this and be a serious contender in a couple of years time - he's got the passion, and the hair, for it.

Why the hair? After taking the piss and getting Jörg to pose in various METAL poses - Jörg told us that he played bass guitar in a thrash metal band and this is the reason he grew his hair like a crazy guy. Jörg uses no producs to style his hair - it's all natural he says - the volume is large and provides insulation for his brain in the cold Estonian winters of -20c. Due to his hair protecting the fragile brain nugget, Jörg is among the top 2% in his schooling among the whole of Estonia.

This is when we first saw Jörg

Ronald Volker is a good sport despite having touring cars running through his blood, after discovering that he'd been zombied in the oOple report he excitedly drove his MODIFIED TOURING CAR to first in round for the final qualifier of the day. A good string of results from Adrian left him untouchable at the top though and Ronald had to settle for 3rd overall.

We were still confused about the order of qualifying and the random appearance of results throughout the report probably demonstrates the same - but the long and short of it is: Jorn TQ's 2wd and 4wd off-road, Adrian Berntsen TQ'd touring car modified, and Zdenko Kunak took the top qualifying score in super stock.

Having focussed heavily on 1/10th offroad since oOple went viral some years ago we were uncertain how we could really break the ice with these flat-track specialists, so we mixed it up a bit with a bit of japery between TQ of off-road classes Jorn Neumann and modified touring car TQ man Adrian Berntsen.

Top Qualifiers BATTLE ROYALE - WITH CHEESE!
In the oOple way, we stirred up some rivalry between Off-Road TQ man, Jörn Neumann - and modified touring TQ man, Adrian Berntsen from the non-EU country of Norsk. We cheekily informed each driver that the other had 'called them a pussy' - the guys were seriously angry and desperate to prove who's the best driver, and what the best type of racing is. This would be brutal street justice.

Unfortunately some of the touring car drivers began to cry when they saw Jörn's Schumacher Mini Pins come close to the track - so we had to find an alternate, neutral, battle ground for these angry guys to face-off.

Right: The guys line up with their rides - and throw out their gang signs of anger.

The DRIFT arena was the perfect place - on road but loose, neither driver would have the advantage. We got a couple of hardcore street drifters to loan out their identical sexy new Yokomo drift cars - the battle could now commence.

It was decided to have a 5-lap race. Jörn had a good start but Adrian got stuck early and had a bad time - he looked quick but every time he looked to close in on Jörn, he had a mistake which dropped him back. Jörn took the win and it was decided to have a best of three to make sure it was all fair.

D-STYLE - Jorn hammers the smack down

Jorn screws up

Neumann dominated the first race - but there would be two more runs.

The second run saw Adrian dominate - this time Jörn had a lot of errors as he tried to reel in the Norsk viking warrior. Adrian lapped Jörn before Jörn managed to make a quick pass, but by this point it was too late and Adrian took the win.

Adrian took the second run by a huge margain

The moments we carry of mens glory for passion we race, for tomorrow we are men and friends.

The last run saw the guys really go side-by-side with some sexy drift action and in that moment the sheer slow-motion beauty of the cars going sideways melted the hearts of both drivers - tears were seen in the crowd of on-lookers as the moment was captured in the hearts of men.

Adrian and Jörn crossed the line together, as friends and equals - forever this moment of beauty will live in their hearts. Now I must cry.

But also of men. End.

Let's get back to reality now.

The guys at DHI don't mess around - the last heat of qualifying marshalled the first heat of off-road finals. The schedule squeezed in one round of finals for each group, but stopped at B final for every class to save the excitement of A finals for tomorrow when there would be more likely to be an audience present. We'll add some final summaries during tomorrows reporting but leave todays report at the end of qualifying so we can get something online for your reading pleasure.

Sunday January 13th 2013

The weather was making me think twice about wearing shorts - but at least it wasn't snowing any longer. Things kicked off with the lower finals - but there was too much to report on to do much more than take some photos.

A final TC Super stock - Leg 1
Finals started bright and early at 08.30am and the first A final to watch was the Touring Car Super Stock at 09.30am. Zdenko Kunak who had dominated qualifying in this class led the race for the first minute and a half, but Marek Cerny took over the lead whilst Zdenko dropped down the order to 4th place.

Martin Lissau was close in the mix for the first couple of minutes but his car stopped of its own accord mid race.

Front runners rub paint

Marek pulled the invisible horn of WIN

These guys race super close - Marek took the leg win less than one tenth of a second ahead of 2nd place Lars Hoppe.

We took a look at Marek's Xray touring car and asked a few questions like Oisin from redrc would do - but we forgot a notepad so most of it was instantly forgotten. What we can remember however is that he is very LUCKY by his own admission. He un-tweaked the chassis by relaxing all the screws and forgot to tighten the rear bulkhead - it was virtually hanging off the car after his run.

The super stock guys apparently get to own their motor - so it's not a hand out - but they run the control 13.5 LRP super stock in a bronze coloured can. They also have to run 'blinky' mode on the ESC which is zero timing for those unfamiliar with this 'stock' stuff.

Some of the stock drivers think others are cheating - whether this is true or not, no one knows. I know I got asked if I was cheating with my Mardave once because I was quicker than anyone - hey, I said, I just don't use the brakes and I'm a better driver - so have that! Christensen Flemming attends the DHI Cup every year with his sewing machine and assorted clothing ready for customisation. Christensen makes some impressive stuff with his huge device and it seemed a perfect time to get some FISTER hats made - we watched as Christensen worked his magic with some magical software to decide on the method of stitching and moments later we all had awesome head-gear.

Christensen told us he recently made some custom clothing for the Swedish House Mafia - which is a musical assortment and not involved in much crime.

If you want to check out Christensen's website and get in contact - his stuff is ace and if you mention oOple he's promised to make the price double, so don't. www.nimik.dk

4wd A Final Leg 1.
Vicky didn't know how to set up the video camera and the schedule which is slightly, erm, beautiful mind, caught us a bit by surprise - so we didn't get any video of the first leg of the 4WD main final. Never mind since it wasn't too eventful up front. There was a quick breakaway by Joern and Martin Bayer - the pair looked well matched and left the rest behind.

It wasn't the cleanest start ever - in fact, it was utter mayhem

Joern looked to have the edge and Martin had to drive to the limit to stay with him. Eventually a traction-roll saw Martin drop way back and suddenly Tom Cockerill's Schumacher CAT K1 was in the mix and chasing down Martin. Time was against him however and he had to settle for third behind Martin - with Joren way out front somewhere on a lap of his own.

Martin Bayer - I thought he was german, and kept using my bad german on him.

Touring Car Modified A Final Leg 1
Sweet jebus these modified touring cars are fast as **** and next to impossible to follow with my camera. I take aim and suddenly the car has accelerated like it's been shot out of a cannon and it's out of my view. So - at least I got a grid shot.

TQ man Adrian Berntsen and Marc Fischer pulled away quickly from Ronald in third - Ronald tried to hang on but couldn't as he saw the leading pair disappear.

Close racing at last!

Proper concentration

Adrian drove a near perfect race - only getting his Xray out of shape once - but it wasn't enough for the hard-charging Marc Fischer to make his move. The pair lapped together for most of the race before Adrian managed to get a little breathing room again and took the win by just over a second from Marc, with Ronald Völker three seconds further back in third.

4wd A Final Leg 2
Martin Bayer flipped on the ‘wall of death’ on lap1, Cockerill was up to 2nd place and ready to put the hammer down on Jörn, Bayer escaped without needing marshalling and although he dropped a few places he was soon back in the battle between Cockerill and Nielsen who were fighting for 2nd place. Jorn danced off ahead but made a slight error coming down the wall of death, which saw Tom and Nielsen close in. Bayer tripped up as he mounted the tabletop which gave Nielsen some breathing space as he pressured Cockerill for second place. Nielsen rammed his car into the upramp of the double jump, but landed on his wheels on the other side of the track… and continued driving, not before Jesper slipped through into 3rd place though. On the following lap Jesper had a slight wobble and Bayer came through into 3rd, whilst Nielsen rode behind looking for a way to pass.

Jorn was pulling a strong lead from 2nd place Tom Cockerill – who was pretty much out on his own whilst the battle for 3rd place followed a couple of corners further back. Bayer was continuing to work his way up the order after his early error and at half race distance was starting to close in on Cockerill.

2wd A Final Leg 1
A clean start to the first leg of 2wd A finals, Jörn started to pull away. Martin Bayer made a smooth move on Hansen coming around the first lap, moving up into 3rd place and quickly closing in on Tom Cockerills gearbox. Bayer looked every way to make a pass at Tom, and soon took the slippery inside line to move into 2nd place. Tom freaked out a bit and flipped over the kicker jumps, landing on his lid and losing several places.

1 min 30 into the race, Jörn was out at the front doing his usual thing, Bayer pushinghard in 2nd, Hansen 3rd - whilst straight-edged Lloyd Storey battled with himself for last place.
With one minute left to race Jorn held a 7.5second lead and held Bayer at bay (lol) for the remainder of the race to take the opening leg.

Viljami Kutvonen
Touring car Finnish national champion Viljami Kutvonen has come over to DHI with his LRP powered Awesomatix ride, which he slid into 5th overall qualifying position in the touring car modified class. Viljami has concentrated his efforts on modified touring car throughout his 10 year racing history, although he also races super stock on occasions - he will be competing at next weekends ETS event....... Viljami tells us that he has been dabbling with 'some of that there off-road racing' undercover and will hopefully be entering some off-road 2wd and 4wd competitions in the coming months. He seemed a bit scared when I suggested the oOple invernational 2013 to make his presence on the off-road scene known, and will keep his 3D-track racing within moderation as he continues to focus his efforts on his (currently) favoured flat-track class. Still, we'll be keeping an eye out for him at future events we attend, he'll most likely be 'one to watch' at the Swedish 1/10th off-road European championships next year.

Awesome! lol

Stuff just went nuts around 2pm - by this point the schedule had a bunch of A finals kicking off on both tracks nearly back-to-back and it was blowing our minds quite literally. With the drunkeness purely of a lack of sleep combined with the frenzy of the on-track action, it was indeed one heck of a frantic dash to try cover the finals. Indeed, it was impossible to cover them properly.

Touring car racers are strange guys - most of the drivers find the racing so darn easy that they like to mix it up by using different methods to hold the transmitter as a way to show how cool they are - below are just two examples, they are all at it!!!

The reverse under wrist freestyle

Thumb-throttle-jockey

We had some name decals for Jesper Rasmusse0n on display on our table and on Sunday it seemed people suddenly wanted them by the bucket load. Of course, not Jesper Rasmussen stickers but their own name and flag. Being that I've not even designed a range of name decals yet - everyone was going mad for the same style as Jesper. Just wait until we release the range! People will go off their nubs.

WHY?
I get the on-road part, but roads round West Yorkshire aren't flat and having watched REAL touring cars when I was younger (I'm talking FORD RS500), I remember the tracks not being entirely flat. Having seen a touring car go round the off-road track quite well, even jumping well - I have to ask the question why the tracks all seem to be so, erm, flat. I mean - the slightest ripple in the carpet would upset everyone, but why not have some small elevation changes, off-camber corners and even a banked corner? Surely the cars can handle this and it'd make it more fun to race and watch surely.

This is a REAL touring car - getting some air

This is a REAL TC track

And now I've said that - I think the control tyres should have much less traction so the cars are more of a challenge and can move around a little more. These would be the rules of the oOple TC series anyway - not sure anyone would turn up tho!! :)

It's a fact that oOple stickers make you FASTER

Touring Car Super Stock leg 2
Lots of crashing at the back of the field on lap1, Zdenko Kunak and Marek Cerny pulled away. Things were close to start with but Zdenko soon started to extend a lead. Two minutes into the race the top 4 cars were all reasonably well spread out, no major incidents. Fek, how do I make this sound exciting? It’s like watching scalectrix.

Zdenko had a 1 second lead one minute into the race – these things are so quick it looked like more than a second. With the front few cars all spread out, the battles were going on mid-field and the last two cars were snuggled up close.
The green car at the back tagged the pink car and then overtook it on the straight just after half race distance. This excited the audience. The pink car was a bit disturbed by this and jumped over the track markers on the following lap.
By now the leader was 2.1seconds ahead of 2nd place, with one minute left to race, and won, I think.

TC modified leg 2

Pole man and leg one winner Adrian Berntsen was running out front with Marc right behind, as was the case in leg one but this time a rare mistake from Adrian saw him go too tight on a corner and flip his car - requiring marshalling and dropping many places in the process.

Adrian leads them away

A mistake from Adrian - BORG is on it!

Marc Fischer took it up but Ronald Volker was on a mission and the setup changes he'd made were helping as he closed in on Marc. Eventually Marc made a small error and clipped a corner - losing momentum ever so slightly but it was enough for Ronald as he punched the throttle for a dramatic pass on the inside for the lead.

Ronald was sniffing every gap, trying to pass

Marc's tiny error allowed Ronald his chance

Marc held on but the clock was against him, there was no time and no chances left. Ronald took the win half a second ahead of Marc, with Alex Hagberg third.

2WD modified leg 2
Jorn lead Cockerill and Bayer around – the top 3 start to spread out as the battles further back for 4th/5th/6th place were kicking off. Jorn pulled a strong lead ahead of 2nd place Tom Cockerill.

Jörn was not 100% happy with this marshalling error

4 minutes into the race Jorn approached the backmarkers with a lead of 3.9seconds ahead of Cockerill still in 2nd. As Jorn started making his way through the rear end traffic disaster struck on the straight as a marshalled car was placed in the path of Neumann, the cars collided flat-out and Jorn limped off - trying but failing to drive the now-shattered remains of his once-proud ride.

Tom Cockerill marched past to take up the lead, and was already 5 seconds ahead of 2nd place Jonas Kaerup. Tom cruised his final lap unthreatened to take the leg 2 win and take this one to a third-leg decider.

SØREN BOY HOLST was the only driver at the DHI Cup with the latest TOP Racing Photon touring car. This sexy red beast is from Japan and Soeren was running in the Super Stock class and said he's run here every year since the event started.

Soeren also confessed to being a WORLD CHAMPION in the Tamiya Front-wheel-drive class at the Tamiya Worlds in Japan, 1996 to go with his Euopean title in the same class. There were some well known racers competing at the events but Soeren is a MANIMAL and took the wins.

2WD modified leg 3
Jorn raced away from Tom, who was also fast and stretched a lead from 3rd place.
After the heartbreak of leg two, Jorn checked out in this one and no-one else stood much chance. He mixed it up a bit by flipping off the tabletop on his final lap, but he could probably have driven the last lap upside down, back to front and inside out, and still won.

Bayer closed in on Tom Cockerill

TC Super Stock leg 3
Martin Lissau took a sneaky underpass on 2nd place Marek Cerny midway through the first lap, but as Marek tried to slip back onto the racing line he rubbed paint with Jan Asmer running in 4th. Marek was demoted to 6th place in the collision.

Zdenko started to move ahead slightly but 2nd-5th place all raced very close on the lovetrain behind. Martin Lissau really hammers down on the leader now, piling on the pressure. Follows like a sexually attracted magnet for the next few laps, but 2 minutes into the race Martin clips a track marker and nudges himself off the scent – giving Zdenko chance to stretch out and pull a lead. Zdenko was out on his own for the rest of the race, except for navigating through the backmarkers, taking the leg win with a 2 second lead from 2nd place Lissau, for the overall win.

The salty Danish treat

Erm - yes, I look like an amateur

TC Modified leg 3
This was the exciting final – having two different leg winners the 3rd leg would be the decider. Berntsen started walking away with the race from lap 1, pulling a visable gap back to 2nd place. Most cars appeared to be running in start order, keeping close further back.

Adrian Berntsen leads them round - lap one

Ronald in 3rd place needed to make a pass at 2nd place Fischer so he could challenge lead-man Adrian for the win.
Three minutes into the race and the order remained the same up at the front, Berntsen was starting to approach traffic at the back of the track. Fischer clipped a track marker which sent him up on two wheels, catching him momentarily off-guard Ronald could slip up the inside line and prepare to battle for the win – FTW!

Volker was on a charge - looks to pass Fischer

Berntsen and Volker cross the line together

4 minutes into the race and Ronald was starting to close the gap up to 1st place Berntsen, reducing his lead to 0.3 of a second. By the final lap Ronald was practically latched onto Berntsens spoiler, and looking every way to make a pass – in an exciting manoeuvre the pair crossed the finish line side by side - Volker losing out by fractions of a second but making the crowd go wild with some awesome driving.

Berntsen - Bernsten = same thing. Facts are not important.

We did a review on the trophy girl, she was nice

I didn't get this tho - wtf!!!!

Jimmy and BIG-Cam man - She adored us both equally, but his is bigger :(

Finn Aasen from Norway painted up these awesome shells for him and his son - actually he's not Finn's son we're told, but actually a whole new genepool of individualism known locally and elsewhere as Joakim Waale Loeken. Using marker pens and very small brushes to get the main details - and finally backing things up with some airbrush work. Finn said the shells took a very long time to complete - let's hope he doesn't smash em up!!!

4WD Modified leg 3
Having already won 4wd in the first two legs, Jörn sat out leg 3 to watch the fun. Bayer lead from the grid and Nielsen was straight onto Cockerill – making an opportunity to slip up his inside coming over the small jump, making contact and flipping Tom like a mancake. Tom dropped down to 7th. Bayer had a 1.5second lead back to 2nd place Nielsen who was followed closely by Hensen.

1min30sec into the race and Nielsen was closing in on Bayer. But then something happened and Nielsen dropped back from Bayer. That was it really, Bayer didn’t look back and took a 9 second lead from Nielsen before the time was up.

Thanks to Ulrich Rasmussen and Tommy Thunderdome - along with the sponsors of the DHI cup for making us welcome and able to report on this awesome event. Thanks also to Dave Church for some stellar work on the mic all weekend, helping the brotherly love to mingle between the forces off touring cars and off roaders - for the spirit of men, of.

Hey you 2D warriors -let us know what you think of the report :)
